2020 GEC #23 Trapper Thread

CK says the pull is 7/10.
7/10 shouldn't rip your fingernail out.
So I'm still up in the air on this one. I'm not wimpy, but I dont want to have a knife that is uncomfortable either.
Thoughts???

I’m not sure what CK’s scale is, but I think it is a very strong pull. The strongest pull on any GEC or CASE I’ve owned

Using the numeric scale outlined in this thread I’d call it an 8.

also, their “5” action rating = gator snap

Also interesting that they gave the pull rating on the micarta version “8”

Some knives I just keep my full attention on when I open and close the blades. This will probably be one of them.

I'm in on the Beaver! gnaw gnaw gnaw. That ain't jigged Cherry, that Beaver gnawed Cherry. gnaw gnaw gnaw. I'm excited, can you tell :D

The micarta I took a picture of was right in line with prior #2352xx runs; the cherry seemed a smidge lighter to me. They have always been tight and I found no discernible difference in this run. It is a bit subjective - but nowhere near a "9" to me; the thumbnail had no issue, but I had give him a pep talk beforehand.

I made statements in this thread about the strong pull. But I still ordered a Beaver gnawed Cherry because I like the pattern so much. The Woodland Micarta was so much nicer in-person than the pictures. I cant wait for my Beaver gnawed Cherry to arrive.

I tend to believe CK's (Mike's) pull ratings.
A lot depends on what strength of pulls you're used to.
A '7' pull can seem like a '9' pull if you're not used to it.
You can always get the knife, and if you don't like it, you can sell it.

I have a beaver on the way and am very excited to own my first 23. I am happy they have stronger pulls, as they should on a large knife in my opinion.

In case they are a little hard on the nails/knuckles I have a back up plan...

Anyone else having an issue with the Spey blade contacting the spring at the center hump on this? 2 open and closes, and I noticed a flat spot on the blade. Very hard to get a picture of.

First picture dark spot arrow pointing is blade to spring contact point. Second red line is the slight hump about center.
Main blade seems ok so far.

Dang, not experiencing this with mine.

I had my #23 beaver gnawed cherry wood wrapped in a free lime green polish cloth. The knife slipped out at slammed on my Australian Cypress wood floor. Some foul language came out of my mouth too. I broke my only thumb nail trying to open it up. No damage to the knife at all. I opened the big #23 knife right up with my feet and a CASE XX blade pick. I open my big knives one blade at a time. Clean it, Oil it ,close it , and grab another blade. I learned the hard way with Boker Congress knives. I teach this to children that I bless with a knife. Multiple blades opened at the same time is like a booby trap to me. The #23 is a bear trap hawg ! I am so happy that I have many more #23 pre-orders to go. GEC 100 club or bust.

I noticed this today on mine today, exactly like yours. I wasn't sure if I did something wrong to make this happen. I re-sharpened and was going to wait and see if it did it again.
