2020 GEC #23 Trapper Thread

Lesknife, mine was the same way.
However after working the main blade a ton of times, it has lightened up a bit.
So all hope is not lost.

Well with me and my mechanical mind of there’s a reason and purpose for everything I’m thinking this needs to be fixed before someone gets hurt. There’s got to be a better way cause I have many knives without half stops with smooth steady actions and I’ve never cut myself. I have a few other knives with half stops but not bear trap snapping like this one. I’ll work it awhile but I’m gonna tape a cover on the edge and maybe a stick for leverage. I ain’t trusting it till it’s smooth and safe. Lol. I like my fingers attached to my hands. Lol

I just wrapped the blade in a few layers of old t shirt material, a few drops of oil every now and again as well.
It evened out to a 7.75-8 pull.

WOW is an understatement.

I received my Beaver Tail #23 on Friday, and at first I was concerned with its heavy-duty pulls, but have to say that after collecting several of the #97s with their pulls at a very decidedly non-confidence inducing 3 or 4, I think I prefer the heavy pulls on traditional with blades this size. It's almost like GEC wanted to respond to the criticisms of the #97.

Ok. Micarta it is. Go figure.. Branch out a little on your vendor choice and you can find the one you want, still. I decided polished blades and swedges weren't worth 30 extra dollars to me, plus I'm not likely to inflict damage on those Micarta slabs if I drop it ever. Such a heartbreaker to blow a chip off a bareheaded handle from a table drop or something.
I'll probably end up with both, tho.

... I'm a weak person. I can put enough weight on a bar to bend it while I'm picking it up, but I couldn't not buy a Northfield after I decided the Tidioute was good enough.

Looks like I'll be posting in the sale forums next, that was sort of dumb.
Been meaning to weed out my doubles and dead ends anyhow.

Wow Harry! That is a stunning example my friend! A beautifully made knife from Bill Howard and his folks! Congratulations my friend! :)
Thanks very much Ron . I Do Not think that Jamie picked one out for me , but it sure looks like he did . I Spent some time CF'n & CE'n and I found no issue with it . Some guys have stated that they had some Bottoming Out of the blade , but I have not found any , but I have not let it Slam closed either . Yes , Bill & his people did a great job .

How typical...just before my reserved single linerlock comes through I have to cough up an equal amount to get a broken fang pulled out...both will ease my pain .

Got this in the mail today. I love the jigging on these. Sorry for the indoor photo, didn't get around to taking one when it was still light outside. Deck of cards for scale.

Nice, strong pulls on mine. No blade rap. The tip of the drop point blade sat a little proud of the liners when I got it, but I took a bit off the kick and it's all good now.

I'm looking forward to the single blade liner lock!

I may of missed it if someone has mentioned this before. Not a fan of the way the tang has been chamfered at the corner where it hits the backspring on the squared end. The original 23's were not like this, the end was totally flush. picky but it stands out. Probably done to ease opening the blade.:(
