2020 GEC #62 Easy Pocket Congress and Pocket Carver Thread

Thanks for the encouragement.... I sometimes have trouble seeing things "spatially" when removing wood. I worried about this one until I realized the inside area is still square, even though the legs angle from corner to corner.. it created an optical illusion in my mind that took some thinking to get around... hey... old dog, new tricks, right?

The inside area is still square, but it is larger on the ends than it is at the center.

Cool! You did the same one I did... shoot... I thought I came up with something unique

Looks like you've got this down pat!

Oh, and my middle name is Jack.... :D

Not sure if I posted this one yet Charlie. I carved a pocket carver at Ranny Bell's request I'm going to send it to him once the lock down is lifted.

What types of wood are you guys using when whittling and What’s a good beginner wood to start with that’s easier to work with? All this beautiful craftsmanship/ whittling has really peaked my interest. I might have to look online for a beginners how to book:thumbsup:
I’m itching to put my beautiful smooth white pocket carver to work !

I use basswood, buy it off ebay for fair prices. Look up Doug Linker on YouTube. He has instructional videos and a beginner carving series.
