2020 GEC #62 Easy Pocket Congress and Pocket Carver Thread

My stag came in today, pretty happy with it. Missed some more popcorn style ones but this one should age well. Group shot with he camel bone models as well. First camel bone experience since the very first run forrest jacks many moons ago.... looking forward to more.

I am not a fan of stag covers. Just aren’t my thing but I admit that the stag 62s I have seen here are outstanding. I have the jigged bone, ivory and maroon micarta. As far as looks go I like the micarta best. They are all users. The Tidioute jigged bone is developing a nice patina. I think the micarta is showing some blade rub, evident on the polished surfaces but I don’t care. They are all getting carried and used replacing my pocket light saber.

These new #62’s are an extremely well constructed knife. I have owned @ 200 GEC knives and these have perhaps the finest ground blade I have yet seen. The main displays an excellent distal taper and is ground to a very fine edge that takes minimal work to make screaming sharp. If GEC has produced a better cutting blade than on this #62, I have not seen it. Even if this pattern does not evoke a “buy me” response in you, buy it to simply see how well a modern era pocket knife can be constructed and how well it can perform. At the price, these are simply a steal.

That's unique. Pics of the other side?
Thank you Mike. I’ll be able to post the pile side tomorrow.

That's pretty radical Harvey . One of the things that I like about Stag like that is " There is not another one just like it "
Thank you Harry. Nice thing about Stag is its’ uniqueness. No right or wrong, good or bad. I bought two, liked this one a smidgen more. Sure like yours a lot. Congratulations.

TexasTomcat TexasTomcat the first GEC I bought was the Maroon Linen Micarta #35. I picked it because of the durability of micarta and because dark, smooth micartas make knife hardware pop. It’s like stark white dress shirts under jet black tuxedos.

I’d love to see more black linen micarta in the future, but I’d also love to see a deep, rich brown micarta on a simple bare headed jack.

Jiki Jiki I share in your joy with the pictures and review you’ve provided, and now before the day is out it looks like I’ll get the personal experience. I now begin the long wait, knowing my new knife is in the mailbox.

I think this is a familiar feeling to a lot of us.

Hey ES - "It’s like stark white dress shirts under jet black tuxedos." Well put! I'm not a big fan of the micartas but I DO like the smooth and the linen and smooth burlap or two I have. My 971119 Maroon Linen Micarta is pretty sweet also with that classic look!

My old Buck 112 has black micarta. Still looks fine after decades of use on the farm and a road trip to Alaska. Now I have learned to appreciate the stuff even more. I think natural canvas is functional but boring. I lean toward linen or smooth burlap. Love to see more of these.
