2020 GEC #74 Mustang Thread

At some point you just gotta stand on principle and say No!!. I wouldn't let myself get ripped off even if I was sitting on millions.

It has been rare for me to find GEC's on the secondary for retail price or less. I know we all have different limits on what we'll spend. Do you guys have a set limit above retail that you'll spend?

I’ve been lucky and got 8 of my 9 GECs from a great dealer at retail. I’ve got one that I paid $40 over retail for and that’s as high as I’d probably go because it was one I absolutely wanted. (93 ramsfoot). With this 74 in burlap I am officially bowing out of the GEC game. I’ve got 9 great users and don’t need anymore, plus you all know how the game is nowadays to get one, it’s not fun anymore. Ok back on track, loving this 74!

I hear ya, and you're 100% correct, spend away. But it just ain't for me, I'd feel taken advantage of and I don't like that feeling. Just me.
And it would be nice if easy money flippers didn't have a market of....hmm, ...willing people.
It's not for me either, I just don't suggest to know what others should or shouldn't do with their money. My comment wasn't directed at you alone.

.... Don't be that guy. ;)

This truly needs to go to GB&U and name names. GEC does not micro-manage the dealers; but if enough people get informed about this the market will take care of the rogue dealers.
i know the dealer, nothing against him but yes he offered the stag 74 for 250 i asked for pics but was not of my likings .two dealers have come up on ebay. i think its supply and demand , also some dealers im sure get frustrated that they sell at retail just to see their knives sold at 4 times the price.

gec alwo does a greqt job at marketing and their strategy of producing limited amounts or small numbers.

i got disspointed that i was on my phone and comp waiting for the notification. one dealer told me they did not know when or at what time they were going to release the 74 but i was told soon. i stayed tuned in did not sleep i git tired took a nap. when i woke up i missed the notification. well i am happy with my buck 110.

I generally only pay retail for knives.
I may go up to $150.00 if it's something I just have to have.

I was just giving my opinion, exactly like you just did right there. ;)

"Don't be that guy" is not an opinion.;)

after a long overnight shift of 12 hours i stayed up thinking i wouod buy ine fro a dealer that release them. i stay up missed sleep i check at the release time : 1200 noon easter time. i checked one knife i was gonna check out and it was gone. not even 5 seconds. if it was a joke they fool me but not ever again. i will stick with my buck or opinel. enough

Allow me to introduce to you the newest members of my Mustang String;
Ms. Irene Ironwood and Mr. Sebastian Stag. ;) Two first rate Northfield 74s from GEC.

They have zero flaws, beautiful covers and excellent fit. Their pull is a bit lighter than expected, about a four. The lighter pull could become one of their better attributes as my hands age. One other thing, I think GEC could do better when breaking their liner's edges, at least on the blade-well entrance. The aforementioned comments are not nearly troublesome enough to be considered complaints but simply observations. Overall I am extremely pleased and pleasantly surprised to have been able to received both the Mustangs I had wanted the very most.:thumbsup: One of the two is almost certain to become an all-round favorite within the next few years. :)

Hard to see the knife discussions for posts about buying them. Have we totally abandoned any attempt to follow the forum rules?

Congratulations! Very nice examples James! I found my Ironwood to be around a five and my Stag to be a solid six. Definitely a noticeable difference. I prefer the six, but the five is also very smooth and crisp at all three positions. :)
