2020 GEC #74 Mustang Thread

The pile side cover of mine is stunningly beautiful:

I'm a fairly new buyer and wonder if this is common for GEC, to have such mismatched sides?

It seems like there is always one.

I missed out on the ironwoods and i'm determined to get a stag so I reached out to one of the dealers that sells on the bay. I asked him if there was anyway I could be notified when he listed, and to my surprise a few days later he contacted me telling me had a stag 74. He told me his price was $250!!! Call me silly but I was prepared to spend the extra money so we went forward with deal. Up until this point we had communicated through Ebay and he asked me to text him. We started talking through text and he asked for my shipping address and informed me that it would be $250 PayPal F&F only. I told him I was uncomfortable using anything other than G&S and asked if that would be an issue. He said no problem if i wanted to add the fees. WHAT?!?!?!? At this point I politely passed on the deal. Sorry for the book, but I thought this was worth sharing since we're talking about market value. Keep in mind this is a dealer that is listed on GEC's site. I should have passed when he told me his price but that FOMO's got a hold on me.

That's certainly some extreme level scumbaggery.

You should report this to GEC. They need to understand what their dealers are doing and how they are representing their company.

I've got a 721111 whic only the very top of the numbers is visible when open. Upon closing just a little past 90 deg. You can see the 7 most of the 2 and maybe 2/3 of the first 1, the last three 1's are never fully seen, only the tops. Cyclops is the top line, Steel works is the second, and the model number bottom. Kind of funny.

I have 3 older model 74's . The Old Barn Chestnut is a 2016 GEC 745116 with a Drop Point and the numbers are covered up 1/2 was up the numbers .
The other 2 are 2017 's : Numbers are completely uncovered . Clip Blades

Interesting (at least to me, probably not to most). :D

Harry, I’m guessing your GEC-brand drop point #74 has the three-line tang stamp (CYCLOPS / STEEL WORKS /Model No.)? I just took a look at my only stainless GEC knife (151116) and the model number is partially covered by the bolster when open, but you can see the whole thing at half stop.

You should post feedback over in GB&U (you can include the dealer’s name there), and as Jiki Jiki suggested, I would 100% contact GEC about it. That’s just super sketchy.

Hard to pick a favorite in that group. I’m guessing it’s the stag.
Yeah, I have no chance of getting a stag as much as I'd like to. I'm too picky about symmetry on stag covers so by the time I'd find one I like they'll all be sold. It's cool though, the Ironwood I received isn't as wild as others I've seen but it's quite a looker in the right lighting.

This truly needs to go to GB&U and name names. GEC does not micro-manage the dealers; but if enough people get informed about this the market will take care of the rogue dealers.

Extremely uncool. :thumbsdown::thumbsdown:
I have my suspicions but PLEASE make a post in the GBU and let us know this dealer so we can all avoid them.

Always one example of mismatched covers?

Or always one neophyte collector who thinks it's something to be bothered about... ?
Oh my, a missed matched covers. Like it's the last two.

Some love the uniqueness of it. Myself.

Others can't deal with it, must have order and symmetry. I will not name names.:D:D:D

I’ve only seen mismatched covers this extreme with stag. Definitely steps the unique factor up a notch :)

Jake, definitely not a good dealer and I’m glad you pulled out.

Which is worse... The guy charging that much or the guy paying that much? Don't be that guy. ;)
I hear ya and totally agree. That is what I'm taking from this situation. However there will always be someone waiting in line to pay those prices. The knife I turned down was listed and sold within an hour of our conversation for $259.99

At some point you just gotta stand on principle and say No!!. I wouldn't let myself get ripped off even if I was sitting on millions.
