2020 Northwoods Indian River Jack Thread

I do wish there was a wood option. I’m always a sucker for micarta, though, so I may try for one of those. On the other hand, the mammoth ivory sounds interesting. I wonder how much that one will cost.

I wish they had at least 1 with wood, oh well I'll try for one of the other choices

Not sure how I feel on this one. I usually go for wood or micarta (but I hate red). I have no experience with camel, kudu or the mammoth. Are those materials suitable for a user or will I have to worry about it breaking?

Camel Bone is very dense - it doesn't even take dye all that well (in my opinion). But you shouldn't worry too much over its durability - it is some rather tough stuff. I can't speak to the other natural options though.

I believe the kudu is stabilized. But there are lots of knives made out of camel, giraffe and Ivory. I've never heard of any of them being unsuitable for knives. If course, if you drop them, any of them could crack, but I've dropped mammoth and camel and no cracks. Of course, there's no guarantee.

So I have a question. If these are GEC manufactured, when where they able to fit this run in? My understanding is they were partially shut down due to COVID for a bit, they are currently cranking out their own stuff right now. Does anyone know if these indeed are being produced by GEC?

There was a photo of the blade on the GEC website that popped up before the Beer & Sausage knives came out, so yes they are from GEC.

Here’s the photo, I had it saved on my phone from July 31st:

Although, it's true that these Indian Rivers are made by GEC, I don't know that this picture is proof of it. The M&Gs had the same blades.

At any rate, it's clear that these are the GEC #35 frame and if you ask KSF, they will confirm. They don't hide the fact that GEC is making these. Also, who else would be making them? Case?? :D Rough Ryder?? :p

The timing with covid should not perplex you. GEC has clearly been up and running since COVID-19 and for a couple of years now, GEC has produced Northwoods with no hint that they are doing so...other than a little bit longer pause on the same picture on their blog.

It’s difficult to tell in that photo, but it looks like the Northwoods stamp is on the blades (the 2 on the bottom left).

That is the northwoods tang stamps on the front and USA on the back. Nice save !

Yeah, someone else originally pointed it out in the “Let’s Talk Northwoods” thread. Somehow it was in plain view but made it past all of us for quite a while.

I've had luck on a few drops. The pricier the model the faster it seems to go. My strategy has always been to go for something in the mid range and it seems to work. This time I'm going for the mammoth. Go big or go home...I'll likely go home, ha!

Not too excited about these, they just look like a regular GEC run with the NW shield. I do like the look of the kudu though, so I might try for that. But will likely save my money for the next knife.

After having seen the pic of all the cover variants, I'm inclined to agree. I have the three M&G #35s I wanted, and all of the B&S knives. I expected more wow factor from these, being Northwoods and all*. If they'd made one with blue jean micarta, I'd have been ready to try for that one. As is, no wood covers, I'm out.

* I recognize that this is my opinion, not an objective statement. I know we have folks who love the bone/stag/mammoth knives the most!
