2022 GEC #36 ElephantToenail/Elephant Toe/Sunfish Thread

I'm just wondering if the Exotic "Jigged" India bone will be a different jigging than the SFO from Frank's referenced above.
I'm not in love with that style of pseudo stag jigging and prefer a more pattern based version.
I agree, I’d prefer more pattern based version.

I dont have a whaler, sun fish, or sleeveboard in the collection these india smooth ivory bone would be a real nice addition. Hopefully I'll get lucky enough to score one.

Well that went quick. Despite the immediacy of reponding, traffic snarled, reservation close. Oh well. Good for the fortunate ones.

In for a standby at CK. We'll see how this goes. :)

I'd love to add either a Gabon Ebony or India Smooth Bone to my collection. Both look great, and are bound to be fun knives (if I'm strong enough to open them that is).

I'd really like to hear more about the India Smooth Ivory Bone. I can't imagine it's bovine bone from India. It's prohibited to export cattle bones from India....

Got in the reserve at CK today. Pretty happy I was looking at phone when alert came in. looking at the pictures I‘m really liking the elephant shield.

They executed this one very well. Bolster is satin, but the wood looks polished to me. Nice pull - not heavy like the 23s, but not light at all. Pull is perfect IMO for this style and size. Back spring is slightly proud at half, but flush when closed and fully open. The shield! Expertly placed and a little “ping” to give the impression of an eye. Very well done.

Fantastic pictures and description Joel. I believe this is the first production elephant toe every made with a half stop, which makes it even better IMO. Can’t wait to get one in hand. Congrats 👏👏👏

That is a great looking knife! I was actually wondering what the pull weight is like. I used to have a couple of older 36's that had pulls of around 9.5, nail breakers if you didn't know how to open them. Interesting that it has a half stop.... Actually surprised they didn't change the pattern number..... Brings to mind the 55 & 56, only differences being the half stop. Love the elephant shield! Thanks for sharing!

It is very well done. Even with one blade and one bolster, it's still a honker of a knife. I have a gram scale that goes to 105 grams and it wont register, so I don't know what it actually weighs. Nice blade and halfstop. Very smooth solid snap. I have the smooth ivory on the way. It looks really nice as well.

Yep, I inquired about the bone being from India too. So actually cows are sacred in India and that bone is protected. Ironically, bulls are not sacred or protected. According to the distributor, it's bull bone from india.

You'd think we'd have plenty of shin bone here, but maybe the color is different?
