2022 GEC #36 ElephantToenail/Elephant Toe/Sunfish Thread

Does anyone know what India Jigged Bone will look like? I did not see any pics of this one?

Is the pull reasonable or is it super hard? 6? 9?!

This was the last run of Exotic India Jigged Bone on the #23. I suspect it will look similar to this.

What do you think about it Brent ??? Are you going to use it or keep it like new ??? I like them well enough to try to reserve one .

The knife's construction is impeccable.... I think even the most critical eyes would be hard put to find a demerit......

The blade has a taper culminating in a very nice, thin edge that would be perfect for slicing..... The pull is heavy, but very manageable even with my aged, arthritic mutilated hands..... The knife has a nice full feel in the hand without feeling obese and unwieldy.......

I don't use any of my GEC knives, but for those that do, I believe you'd be very satisfied....

These are so awesome. I'd love to get one at retail price, but they seem like unobtainium at that price.
When you say retail price, are you talking MSRP or MAP? There may be others, but I know of only 2 dealers that still drop at MAP.

I just mean not the 'bay's $425 prices. 🤣
I hear ya. I used to be able to get them at MAP but now typically have to pay MSRP unless I get lucky on a drop from one particular dealer. I'm OK with that though as at least I know I can get them. I have never payed over dealer MSRP and I wont.
If I ever lose that privilege with my long time dealer, I'm done. It would have to be a very special SFO or SFA before I'd step out of bounds. I realize many can't land them on drops or have a dedicated dealer and they are just glad to get one at the higher price. Just not me. That's just my stance on it.

Did they skip over the jigged bone and go right to the cocobolo in production?
I'm told they're still doing the jigged bone, but without being told outright, I think they are waiting for more bone or trying to get the jig right. It's the same frame and bolsters, so the coco was probably an easy run to fill the gap.

I'm still holding out hope that the jigged bone has a more traditional shield like the cocobolo.

Just a guess on the blades in the box stacked 5 high and 10 wide.
I wouldn't go by that. That may be just the ones they have cleaned up,or they may have that box depleted. I'd say by the pics of frames and scales in different stages with trays stacked on each other, it's a lot more than that. I know the Tidioute numbers are much higher than that, but are actually to the low side of what they have typically been running. Therefore, they will be harder to get, as if it isn't hard enough on big runs. The Ebony is already commanding a big premium on the secondary market and most of the larger dealers haven't even done a drop yet. I see the NF blade has a different swedge and would like to see the other side of the blade to see what the pull is. I also wonder if they'll use the toenail or NF etch on that one. I guess we'll see soon.

Ah, I see the stacked trays now, good eye.

It’s a long pull! Which makes the NF almost perfect.
