2022 GEC Bayou Trapper #88 Thread

I had every intention of picking up the green jigged bone version, but after seeing it next to this ironwood I changed m’mind. I love that they polished the bolsters and the wood on these Ironwoods. Had they been the satin finish I probably would’ve walked away with the green jigged bone.

You got some nice grain on that one.

Well, my 88 didn't win the Ironwood Lottery, but it's here, so I'm not complaining (much).

It looks okay, maybe not the best example, but one thing i will tell you my friend. If your 88 is going to be a user will not matter. All ironwood that is carried and used end up looking nearly the same, it is a trait of the wood. My first ironwood which i have had for years now looks nothing like when i got it, the wood seems to absorb every bit of moisture and oil from your hands and darkens considerably, it is just a trait of the wood. But the trade off is, it seems to smooth out and feels great in the hand, but they all darken, so just enjoy your new purchase.:)

This one of the coolest (ha) GEC knives I've ever purchased. I'm really happy with the 88 yeti example I got. Strong pulls, snappy action, and great covers. I love that I didn't get solid white covers. Mine have a sort of "snow blowing across the ground" look to them which fits well with the theme of knife. This is also my first ever lambsfoot blade. I have to say that it's my favorite utility blade shape now.

Yes, you're right. Eventually, most wood handles look like ebony after enough use. Usually, my GECs end up as safe queens, but I won't feel bad putting this one in my pocket.

That's some really nice grain on that one. Very nice!!!!! I too turned down my chance for the green jigged bone offering. I thought the shield was a tad too big and the jigging was only so-so. That's just my taste. I'm sure that those that score the gator version will be quite pleased with their selection.

Thanks Ed. I did have to ponder the choice for a bit. Whimsy vs class. Class won this battle, but it doesn’t always.;)
