2022 Knives Listed on Buck Website...and then Delisted...Live Again!

Well Fixall Fixall , came home from out of town today and I think I'm joining you in the disappointed club. Can't really put into words. I know its a knife and there's way more important things going on in the world around us, but really makes me want to be done with the collector pieces. Got my 112 Tribute back. I want to be fair, so Buck customer service was excellent in getting back to me after I originally reached out with the issues I had of off centering and rough lock up I described and pictured previously in this thread. They also got it back to me very quickly.

However, when I got it back and looked it over today, I'm just left deflated overall. The lockbar and blade still are not lined up. Better, but for a high dollar collector piece? ...come on!

Also, I don't even know if this is possible, but could the buffing wheel have been used a little too aggressively? The rear bolster are now NOT even! I swear they were when I sent it in. The only original picture is posted earlier in this thread and, unfortunately, is not a great one to see it. I'll try and post it again along with one from today. Just really left shaking my head for the money spent on something I was really excited for...

First shows original rear bolsters before being sent in, second picture shows how it is now. I know the lighting and shadows make it a little difficult, but its the best I could capture. Not hard to see when its in front of me. And the third picture shows the re-aligned lockbar and blade after being sent back in for work.

I’m sorry buddy. Something has definitely changed at Buck imo.

I ended to asking Buck for a refund, but haven’t heard back yet. Honestly, I’m not expecting them to agree to it since I bought it from Larry…. But personally, I don’t think it’s fair for Larry to have to eat shipping charges and whatnot for something that is obviously a Buck Factory issue.

I’m still hoping Jeff makes an appearance in here.

I'm curious about the 842 Legacy Sprint.
I like everything about that knife.

I cannot get over the price.
And I'm concerned about the overall value all things considered.

In addition; when purchasing Legacy Knives as a BCCI member...... The purchasing options with potential service issues,...... well, the attraction deminishes in comparison to regular catalog items.

Hmmm.

Still no response to my email to Buck that I sent on Friday about a refund. That's a little abnormal... They are usually among the quickest companies to respond in my experience.

Maybe I pissed them off.

I also usually get a fast response to emailed questions. Maybe a day or two.

Only did a return once, so can't really go by my experience. Maybe just call, speak to someone. Probably get a better response this way anyway.

that's disappointing. Jeff was here the other day, missed this thread i guess....maybe pm him? might take him awhile to get back to ya, but couldn't hurt.....

Fixall Fixall I just contacted Buck about my knife still not being right after warranty work (along with the additional non-symmetrical rear bolster). I called this time in order to speak with someone in person, since my the first time I did everything over email. The representative I spoke with informed me that the knife was repaired and not replaced, which makes me really wonder what the heck went on with the rear bolster then.
She recommended that I email the warranty department and send pictures to let them determine what the next step will be. So basically, I guess email is still the preferred way to go. Not sure if that helps you at all, just my findings from today. They did pick up the phone very quickly, so if you don't get an email response soon, there is always that option to at least speak to someone in person that could look into why.

Thanks for the info.

I actually sent a video of the issue in with my email. Still no response yet. It’s my hope that they’re either reviewing that, or trying to get an answer from higher ups about a refund (since purchased it from the BCCI program, and not Buck directly).

I’m a bit perplexed that J J Hubbard hasn’t poked his head in to be honest.

Well…. It had been a week since I sent the last email to Buck with no response, so I sent another email. They just got back to me.

No refund possible because it was purchase from the BCCI Program…. And apparently they didn’t think the video I took was good enough because they asked me to send new pics instead.

The saga continues.

Looks like I’m probably going to have to keep trading them in until I get one that’s not a complete dud so I can just sell it on the exchange. Seems like it would be cheaper for Buck to just refund the $270, rather than keep footing the shipping bill to send replacements…. Not to mention the feelings of good will lost. :(

Fixall,

It's time for you to reach out to the New Comander & Chief CJ Buck and ask him if he thinks this is acceptable quality for a collectors knife! You should also include the new big boss. It never hurts to escalate an issue when you are getting nowhere fast!

I just got home from work. I'm going to send some more pics real quick and see what they have to say.

I received another email from them while I was working and I was told that my replacement knife was actually inspected before it was sent to me!!! I am shock that someone could QC a $275 - $350 knife with these issues and let it go out the door.

Honestly at this point, I'm thinking of making a thread about it and making more of a stink.

Alright, it's a pain in the butt to get the camera to focus on the issues, lol. It's a lot easier with video. I think I make the issues clear in these photos. Any better suggestions?

If this was inspected from the factory and got the "Ok" to be sent out as a replacement for a $350 knife... I really don't know what to think at this point.

this is my personal preference on the swedge sides lining up, that wouldnt bother me...but i understand why it does bother you......

but that chisel tip is terrible there. even if it were regular production cheaper Buck knife....the grinds shouldn't be that off to have that chisel tip.

id send that one back.....

This is already the replacement they sent me that was hand inspected before leaving the factory. I don't have a lot of faith that all of them aren't similar :/

I was following that and knew it. can't say I blame ya for feeling that way, i would too. id still send it back just cause....not sure what else to do there.....but yeah id be just as unhappy and frustrated as im sure you are......

also I feel your likely right..they all are gonna be like that.

Oh gotcha. With my rapid posting, I thought you might have missed it in there, lol.

Yea, that’s likely what I’ll do. If the next one is like this too, I’m not really sure what to do. Even with my documenting of the flaws (which would likely kill interest), I wouldn’t feel to great selling it to someone…. Which just blows my mind even more that Buck would be ok with selling these for the price they are asking.

This sucks Fixall Fixall . Something like this can really turn one off to a company. It's really a shame. I had a similar thing happen with Ruger. Sent a gun in with two problems. Got it back with one problem fixed. One problem ignored. A brand new problem that didn't exist when I sent it in. Another part "fixed" that wasn't broke and wasn't requested or mentioned and yet another unrequested part replaced. I was, and remain, astonished at the level of incompetence and complete lack of any QC. I've slowly divested myself of all but two Rugers and haven't bought any more. Doubt I ever will. Gross incompetency and lack of QC is simply unacceptable. I love Buck as much as I "love" any company. It will be so disappointing if this the new norm :(

I'm hesitant to call in the big guns... But I'm curious to hear J J Hubbard 's thoughts on this.
Dated Feb 18.
This lack of input is what puzzles me.

Maybe he has you on ignore. lol🤣

...wait, that's pretty obvious. Sorry.

It'll take more than this to turn me off from Buck completely... But I think I'm absolutely done spending any more than ~$150 max on a Buck. I'm just not seeing their value above that price point these days whatsoever.
