2022 Knives Listed on Buck Website...and then Delisted...Live Again!

Fixall Fixall You made me take a relook at my recently received 212. I was happy with it until I looked again, like yours, great wood. Mine has an even grind, it does start a bit forward of the tang though not as much as yours. The now noticed disapointment.... my swedge is way off also. I would think this is a fixtured machine operation and should be perfect. While I'm on my high horse, as a person who has to store alot of knife boxes (more than 20) I hate the goofy size inappropriate magnetic boxes. A good quality sturdy size appropriate 2 piece box would be nicer.

Yea, I don't get that either. The edge being off is understandable to an extent, but I really don't get how the swedge could be off so much.

Ya'll have me holding my breath now on the 112 Tribute I posted earlier in this thread. I ended up deciding to send it back to get fixed. I have to agree with Fixall Fixall though, when he mentioned being kind of sad. I'm not mad because the customer service was responsive in terms of getting me set up with shipping back rather quickly, but definitely just a feeling of disappointment and a little sad that so many have been slipping through the cracks. Especially at the price point and supposedly being a high end offering/exclusive.

I was kind of hoping to hear back from Mr. Hubbard with some sort of idea/solution. Should I assume the 212 Limited Edition I posted the video of is within spec?

I was at the local Hardware Sales today and they happened to have a 212 LE on display and I asked to see it. It had the exact same issue. Overground on the right side (while looking from the spine of the knife down), and the swedge was off by quite a bit. It's starting to sound like a not insignificant amount of these knives have these flaws. I really don't feel I'm being unreasonable for expecting more out of a knife that retails for $350.

I purchased mine from the Buck Collector's Club Program, so I'm not really in a position to ask for a refund. Mr. Oden certainly shouldn't be eating shipping fees for a Buck Factory issue. At this point, I think I'm just going to post it for sale and note the issues, and maybe I'll be able to get most my money back considering the discount I received.

What a bummer.

Can't you just send it back to Buck for a full refund of your actual cost (even if you purchased from Mr. Oden) ?

I was kind of hoping Jeff would pop in here with an idea. I can't imagine Buck would be willing to just cut me a check for the price I paid, including shipping though.

Fixall Fixall hang in there brother I think you will hear from Jeff. He has answered any questions/concerns I've had, although sometimes delayed due to business.

I do not own any 212s. I am wondering if there have been similar issues with grind, fit/finish on the SK or stock 212s.

I have four of them.
I've looked them over and every one of them is fine by me. My SK 212 is almost perfect.

I believe Buck makes about the best user you can buy for the money.
And I appreciate the fact that they are handmade, and I expect there to be some variations in each knife as a result.

I also believe the consumer can expect a "limited" knife to be of a better-quality, finish wise.

I've looked over some of my old Marbles knives.
All of them are pre-WWII era, and the grinds on those are impressive. I know those were hand finished too.

I know I probably couldn't do better myself tho, so.......

If anyone was waiting, the "Coming Soon" was removed from the 2022 Legacy 501 a little bit ago, which makes it available on Buck's website now. Too rich for my blood. If someone gets one, please post pictures.

I’m new to the 501, but I have several now and really enjoy the size and weight for pocket carry. I’m trying to understand why this 501 is priced at $260? CPM-S35VN may cost a little more than CPM-154, but I don’t see how this is worth $175 more than the SK goodfella of a couple years ago? What do the Buck Collectors Club pay for it? I’d like to have one, but geesh!

Lots of both collectors and users buy a expensive knife and for many different reasons let it go. Just like cars. Some hold their value well and a few increase. Bucks are no different but a few the newest LE's seem higher than what we have seen in the past. SK's found a sweet spot for price and value and all were neat and most had premium steel and handles..or at least were different. If Buck overprices a particular LE sales will slow and sooner or later it will be on sale at a more reasonable price both from Buck directly and at retail distributors but especially on Ebay and even private sales. WE determine what a fair price is! All companies look at the aftermarket to see what their product sells for and want to get a part of it if they can..

Well Fixall Fixall , came home from out of town today and I think I'm joining you in the disappointed club. Can't really put into words. I know its a knife and there's way more important things going on in the world around us, but really makes me want to be done with the collector pieces. Got my 112 Tribute back. I want to be fair, so Buck customer service was excellent in getting back to me after I originally reached out with the issues I had of off centering and rough lock up I described and pictured previously in this thread. They also got it back to me very quickly.

However, when I got it back and looked it over today, I'm just left deflated overall. The lockbar and blade still are not lined up. Better, but for a high dollar collector piece? ...come on!

Also, I don't even know if this is possible, but could the buffing wheel have been used a little too aggressively? The rear bolster are now NOT even! I swear they were when I sent it in. The only original picture is posted earlier in this thread and, unfortunately, is not a great one to see it. I'll try and post it again along with one from today. Just really left shaking my head for the money spent on something I was really excited for...

First shows original rear bolsters before being sent in, second picture shows how it is now. I know the lighting and shadows make it a little difficult, but its the best I could capture. Not hard to see when its in front of me. And the third picture shows the re-aligned lockbar and blade after being sent back in for work.

That is unfortunate.

It reminds me of my recent experiences with Buck. Sad

It may not be the same knife. Check your paperwork with the returned knife.

I sent in two BOTM's to be fixed (scratches on the blade). Emails exchanged before returning describing the exact issues and exactly what I was hoping would be the outcome. Knives returned with Buck paperwork "Replaced with new ones".

Here is the problem - the returned knives have a larger scratch, in a different area of the blade, on one of the knives and on the other knife the bolster is scratched and the tip of the blade grind is way off.

Knives returned to me around September of last year - I didn't read the enclosed paperwork until the other day I was so disappointed with the returned knives. I looked at them and then immediately just put them back in the returned box. Having the feeling I should have left well enough alone.

I was as "deflated" as you are when I first received these knives back. This was my first time sending a knife into Buck. They replaced the issue of scratched blades with completely different knives, which are more messed up than the knives I sent in.

I don't have an issue they replaced the knives. It is, as I said, the replaced knives are in worse shape. I can't imagine someone even looked at the knives before sending them to me. The scratches are easily noticeable and the tip grind is bad - amateurish.

I'm going to eventually contact Buck again.
