The Bear and Sons hawkbill knife certainly is a significant improvement over the last two, but does not look like a GEC to me (especially for $100 bucks!)

That's what happened to me in 2022. When the "Foggy Hill Cutlery Labors" announced the 2022 Remington Bullet knife, I purchased right away. Later, after finding out that they were suspiciously avoiding mentioning the specific manufacturer, and hearing good arguments from regulars here of it being a Bear & Son, I'll admit I felt duped and more than a little stupid. Turns out I was just ignorant, but two good things came of it. One, I vowed to get educated about traditional pocket knives and it was that decision that led me to discovering "the porch" - in my estimation, the finest group of folks you'd ever hope to meet online, and two - I learned that I'm not much of a B&S fan.I purchased one of these "GEC made" Remington Hawkbill knives last night ...without really giving it too much thought, because of FOMO and "GEC"... LOL!
Yeah man...SAME! The 2023 (stamped 2022) GEC Remington Grandaddy Cowboy Barlow is one of my favorite all time GECs, so last night when I saw "GEC" "Remington" "2024" I instantly clicked buy without doing ANY research whatsoever. Thank god for this place, where I was able to educate myself a little bit! That's what happened to me in 2022. Just as a point of comparison, my 2022 B&S bullet knife has never been carried but the 2022 GEC bullet knife (received in 2023) was easily my 2023 Knife of the Year.
I don't know Bill Howard, never met the man - and yet, from handling a number of knives known to have originated at Great Eastern Cutlery, I feel I know a little bit about his production values.Yeah man...SAME! UPDATE for anyone who's interested: I had initially planned on taking delivery of the knife so I could ascertain if it was in fact, a GEC produced knife or not, but after researching it as much as I could, the evidence of it being produced by Bear & Sons is just too overwhelming. So I reached out to Gary from Northwest Knife Company, where I purchased the knife, and cancelled the order. Gary was super nice, and actually referred me to THIS VERY THREAD here on BF, pointing out the dude on here who said that Bill Howard himself stated that GEC had indeed made a Hawkbill knife (which is just hearsay, as far as I'm concerned). In his second email, Gary also said that he called up GEC themselves, and they said that it was indeed a GEC produced knife!
Now, I'm not saying that Gary was bullshitting about this...but I also wasn't entirely convinced either. I pointed out the evidence (nail nick shape and placement, jigging and color on bone covers, etc) all pointing to it being a B&S knife, and even Gary admitted that he wasn't really sure himself. But I just didn't want to take a $99 chance on maybe getting a Bear & Son knife, so I cancelled the order and they refunded me the $99. I also noticed that the "GEC" Hawkbill knife was removed from the Northwest Knife Company website entirely. Make of that what you will. I've purchased many knives from Northwest previously, and they are definitely a great retailer to buy GECs from. Please don't think that I'm shitting on them, cause I'm definitely not! Gary refunded me my $$$ and seemed concerned that NW had bad info about the Hawkbill. If anyone here does get one, I'm very curious to know what they think about the knife in hand. Is it made by GEC? Bear & Sons? This mystery must be solved!!![]()
I had assumed because they didn’t make/offer the 2023 until 2024. It got away from them. There must be something behind the statement, “the one that got away.” Anyway, this is interesting and a great mystery to solve. I am sure someone here will figure out what is going on.
I talked to a GEC dealer that mentioned (last fall) that GEC did a run of the Remington Bullet knives. His conjecture was that they would be available soon….last fall. My assumption has been that he got misinformed, but your theory may be on point. The GEC made Remington is not out yet. Production is and has been finished for some time. The packaging is not done by GEC. I suspect they'll be shipping soon. Being made in '23, it will probably be marked as such, then called the 2024.
And there they are.View attachment 2493196
If you’ve been waiting, they’re finally on their way! (edited to remove company logo)
LOL......Over 1,000 made is bad for collector value.
I’m not complaining.LOL......
They complain that GECs are hard to get because there aren't enough for everyone.
Then they complain when GEC makes enough for everyone.
