2024 Remington Bullet Knife

I couldn't care any less about the "collector value" and I love it when GEC makes an absolute ton of a pattern, as long as it's a pattern I like and will use. I use my knives. But that price, especially for an agricultural tool pattern, is kind of silly. I also think a fancy matchstrike pull on an agricultural pattern is kinda silly - who wants to dig sap and dirt out of there? not me.

I think it's a pass for me. I already have two #47 Harvesters from the last run, a natural textured micarta Tidioute and a Che Chen Rosewood Northfield. Since I've yet to find a use for the Northfield, I doubt I'd ever find a use for this even-fancier Remington and I certainly don't collect ("hoard" is a better term) based on brand names.

I'm disappointed personally, I was hoping for something more like the 2021 or 2022 Remingtons - a more general-use pattern. It's a nice looking knife though, and there should be more than enough for the folks who want them.
My motto has always been buy what you like and enjoy them, as users or collectibles. I’m just cautioning people that if you buy one and end up selling it, chances are you won’t get what you paid for it.

Don't caution them too much, the only way I'll wind up with one is either a retail sale (unlikely) or from someone moving one at a loss (more likely)! 🤣

Not trying to turn this into a thread on Harvesters, but I took this picture the other day and it illustrates how the more functional trim gets used more (or at all...) than the higher trim package model.

The Tidioute has no nail nick/pull whatsoever (why would a pruner pattern need one?) which makes sense from a practical perspective as there will be no buildup to scrape out of the nick and, since most folks wear gloves while gardening or other agricultural endeavours, a fingernail isn't usually available anyway. Also, the Tidioute has very aggressive texturing and a highly durable cover material - check and check!

If I picked up one of these Remingtons, I imagine that a few years down the line, it would look about the same as it did in the picture on the site. For me, there's not much fun in that. 🤷

birdsbeaks birdsbeaks , it is not surprising that a forum dedicated to knives would have collectors as members. What I cannot understand is why people who think collecting is silly want to hang around with us. Virtually all of us collect in some form or fashion. It is simply a fun hobby. We each have our own designs for our collections, which I am sure are as varied as we are. There are probably not too identical collections. Some collections are small and some are large. Some people use their knives and some do not. Painting us all with a broad brush as “hoarders” is not accurate. My personal collection is fairly small, and I use almost all of my knives to some degree. I would not call that hoarding

On a side note, I would much rather own and use that Northfield Harvester. I borrowed this photo, but it looks like the original Remington knife makers had no problems with a well turned out Harvester with nail nicks.

Augie Augie , I believe this is one of your photographs. Please let me know if you would prefer for me to remove it. Would you mind telling us more about that gorgeous old knife?

I was speaking personally and identifying myself as a hoarder. I (somewhat) jokingly refer to my "collection" as a hoard as, since I collect users, they aren't much of a "collection;" at least in the way it's typically understood - ie. pristine, hermetically sealed, museum-grade artifacts.

I certainly wasn't passing judgment on anyone or their purchasing trends. I try not to judge other people or their behavior, understanding that we are all on a path of development and that no one is "finished" yet.

I never said that caring about "collector value" is bad or silly. I simply stated that I don't care about it at all.

Apologies for any misunderstanding. I wasn't taking a shot at anyone.

Edit: And I do use my Northfield Harvester, just not for the tasks at which its blade shape excels.

Another edit: Who said anything about anyone having a problem with nail nicks? Certainly, not me! I was sharing my thoughts on the subject of nail nicks/pulls on historically agricultural patterned knives. In my opinion, by leaving a nick,/pull off of the Tidioute - GEC has successfully refined the design.

Here's me using the punch on my 'The Rider' Harness Jack to dig the mung out of a Schrade-Walden Rope Knife's nail nick - another working pattern which, in my opinion, has a superfluous fingernail-based opening method. 🤷

I reluctantly bought one. 😂 I've been looking for a new GEC to carry with the lanyard hole. Yeah, could have gotten a 72 for a bit less, but I really like the harvester blade.
I feel that! I'm always about the lanyard holes, but lately I've been on a straight-edge kick! If I hadn't just picked up a new Viper, I might not have been able to resist!

Typing that out made me realize how irresistible a Remington-branded Viper would be. Maybe some day!

Under 200 dollars with shipping, has some silver on it too. Not unreasonable compared to what GECs go for on the exchange these days.
Not rare and the previous remingtons did not sell immediately either. Looks nice and appeals to Remington collectors too.
I doubt it will sell for less on the secondary market, with shipping.

The vipers are really nice.....I've been looking at Vipers, Cody Scouts, etc....Just never pulled the trigger. I am a fan of Remingtons, I like lanyards and I even like the hawkbill blades.

So the knife was a no brainer for me....just can't say the same about the price.

But hey....I am celebrating something personal, so what the hell.

The past GEC-made Remingtons were more general use knives, despite being on the larger side. This one however, is more purpose built and I can't say that it will see much use over any of my other pruners. I am not a Remington collector, so I will probably take a pass on this one, especially considering the price. Since it seems like GEC is on board with continuing these Remington branded knives, I will definitely be keeping an eye out for their future efforts though.

2022’s Granddaddy Barlows were the same price, and I can safely say I've gotten more than my money's worth of enjoyment from them!

Congratulations, finding a knife that appeals to your sensibilities and aesthetic preferences is worth its weight in gold!

Enjoy it in good health! 👍
