2025 CPK get together

That just doesn't look pleasant with a barrel that short. Well done to both of you for keeping ahold of it.

I had a 4" S&W 500 years ago. I don't remember the recoil being so bad I couldn't hold on to it. However I would only shoot about 10 rounds then I was done. However I was much younger and probably stronger. Don't get me wrong it was definitely a handful. I didn't video or have someone watch me so don't know how far up the recoil took it.

My 480 Ruger kicks hard enough. After 6 shots it hurts and the concussion to others is unbearable
It's right at the line for me. Wouldn't want it any stronger. I'm told that the Underwood ammo I have is on the hot side.

Mike157 Mike157 kept wanting to shoot it again. I know who I'll call first if it stops being fun.

Congratulations to Jo, Nathan, Mark and the crew for hosting another well prepared and by all accounts, as very enjoyable Gathering Event at the CPK Compound. These annual gatherings seem to be getting even more fun filled every year with more attendees and for those of us who could not attend, this thread has been a delightful reminder of what we missed; the whimsical color commentaries by Yoko (the soul of the party) and the detailed pictorials by PolRodger (the emeritus umpire) have been great additions to be able to experience the Gathering vicariously.

I think that Nathan started his "knife making" journey in 2006 (?) and it was a decade later in 2016 when he finally decided on getting his own subform on BF. Look at where he is now! In under 10 years, he has the best subform on BF and he is now an actual LEGEND in this business. Nathan may feel old and long in the tooth at just 50, but to me this has been an outstanding achievement by this Nathan fella, the legendary, evil genius, whipper snapper (to me ;) ) I am proud to be a part of this community and for once in my life, somehow by sheer dumb luck, I managed to latch onto something great at the ground floor which I did not let go of 🤣

I’m sure the high powered Underwood ammo added to the recoil.

The Underwood ammunition generated about 2,800 foot pounds of energy, which is more than a typical .308 "high power rifle"

I cannot imagine firing that without very good ear protection

I know it did. I didn’t think about that when I said that. I have a 10mm when I shoot regular target it’s light but full underwood is very different.
I didn’t really find 10mm particularly stout the first time I tried Underwood hard cast.

After reading about how and why they created .40S&W (full power 10mm was too much for some officers to handle), I expected a lot more.

After trying it in a G20, though, I tried several drills and my splits were only ~0.02s off from my G17 splits (0.14 - 0.16, vs 0.12-0.14) for A-zone at 7yds with Underwood 200gr hardcast.

That said, I did notice that a lot of 10mm FMJ is really downloaded. I think S&B felt like one of the weakest. Sig’s Elite 180gr FMJ was somewhat decent.

Lightly loaded 10 mm is a pet peeve of mine

If I can get the same performance from a .40, why am I carrying a 10. I prefer the more compact grip of the 40, I am dealing with the 10 because I want the 10. Soft loads do not impress

Been shooting the 10 since 1991. With the loads nowadays, it’s pretty hard to beat.
