Those are both great examples. I miss that shield.

I’m still waiting on my first #16. I’ve got a Tidioute jigged bone on its way.

I personally feel the tidioute trim works better on the 16 pattern, but I generally prefer Tidioute anyways. In my opinion the jigged tidioutes will be the ones to have

This one was part of the regular tidioute batch that run. It’s a 1 of 5 so an uncommon version of an uncommon (until recently) pattern. The Bloodwood really suits the pattern very well in my mind… gleaming bolsters and shield broken up by some nice rich red wood.

I believe GEC has only used this wood on two patterns. Once on the #16 canoe and once on the #45 roughneck/lumberjack

I’m the same. There are definitely some Northfields that I like, but 9 times out of 10, I prefer Tidioute.

I like both but there’s something about the fluted and pinched bolsters that give the Northfields elegance.

Northfield is fancier, for sure. I think the problem is that I’m not very fancy.

It really depends on the knife, but as a general rule, I prefer satin blades to polished, nail nicks to long pulls, drawn swedges to cut swedges, etc.

Yes, yes and yes It's odd because I'm not a big fan of the Canoe pattern nor of blue knives, but this more than rocks The Blue Micarta looks like a Sapphire effect, smooth and hard, gives a 'streamlined' finish-ideal for boats. The shield is right too, balances the the large bolsters nicely. Could be a working jewel. Look forward to seeing more of these in action, thus we can be grateful we're not dead

Naturally, the Stag version COULD be really something, but only if you land one with decent character, and that has been scarce lately...

Thanks Will! I’m looking forward to the white linen which will be here by Monday or Tuesday. My very kind dealer told me that when the stag canoes come in he’ll send me some pics and let me choose he gets some nice ones!

Can't believe it's been 14 years to get this pattern again. Long awaited for sure. This Tidioute version is the best of the run IMHO. Glad to have a GEC canoe

I discovered Blade Forums and GEC 2 years after the original GEC #16s came out, and there were still canoes available for purchase at several dealers then (and IIRC for at least another year). At the time I joined BF, I didn't realize how "smitten" I'd be by the canoe pattern, but I soon tried my first canoe (from RR) and was under the spell of the pattern. I remember looking at GEC Little Indian Girl canoes, and I thought it would be cool to have either a rust red jigged bone or an ebony model, since both were released on month and day of my birthday. But back then I thought it was outrageous to pay $85 or $90 bucks for a knife (did they require a special rider on my homeowner's insurance policy??), which is I think what those canoes were being sold for.
