It's like asking what's better, a Ribeye or a KC Strip? IMO they're both killer and IIRC they're both in the top 5 most popular rifle cartridges in the US. (I use a .308 because I love a short-action, compact rifle.) The only thing that would give a 270 the leg up would be its trajectory, it is superior because with like wt. bullets it will have the better ballistic coeficient and thus the better downrange performance for long shots and it recoils appreciably less. The 30-06 would have the leg up if you're interested in old US Military rifles, a few of which were chambered for it. So atleast for blasting ammo, you could have some overlap. And we all know you're stockpiling ammo for SHTF. YMMV
On a side note, you'll always be better served sticking with a 223, 243, 308, 270, 30-06, 30/30, 7mm mag, or 300 magif you want to find ammo pretty much anywhere ammo is sold or stored for that matter. And the bold ones have been around as US military cartridges and will continue to be around for that reason. There are too many chamberings that were the hot thing at one point that are now obsolete, or at best reloader only, for me to ever consider a new chambering until it has stood the test of time. Once again, YMMV
