$300.00 to $500.00 mark ups???

this is a very interesting thread.

first, i dont think the ash will affect the sales/purchases of the original shsh's. two totally different markets.

second, are people upset at the high mark ups of the newer knives (sfno), the older knives (sh's), or all of them?

eg, i have a shba, that i know i could sell for 800-900. they were originally under 200. i paid around 500. i doubt anyone would argue if i were to list it for a 400% + mark up.

not long ago i sold my sfno user for 450. pretty much broke even. but i have never been one to look for a substantial profit margin. i generally list at the break even point including shipping. sometimes i make a little, sometimes i lose a little.

ive been fortunate to own nearly every busse i have wanted at some point. sfno, shms, shlms, fsh, hhfsh, fbm's, ergos, a couple protos, all of which were eventually traded or sold.

ok, maybe this is the question that should be asked:

How do those of you that have paid $700 + for the SFNO feel if the SFNO is re-released at $287 for the basic and $437 for the LE, with double cuts going for high $300's?

If the re-release of the SFNO had the same features that I paid $750 for (.22 doublecut with a saber grind), then I'd likely buy about three more, no regrets. If it were re-released without these features then I'd likely pass on the new ones and spend another $700+ to get an older one. I've decided not to compromise. I would rather pay two or three times the original release price to get the exact knife I want, then to buy three or four knives that are close, but not quite.

There is a certain point, though, that getting a total custom made is more advantageous. I think that some of the recent sales have crossed this line.

This may be a different view from others, but I think the market hike for the SFNO is pretty unique. In contrast to the markets for the SHBM, SHSH, and HOFSH's where the market prices are driven by the collectors, it's the people who USE the SFNO that seem to be driving the price increase and spending the big money for them. This time, it's the pure collectors who don't understand the demand and the reason for the high prices.

Well if the collectors were not sitting on the hundreds or thousands that were made the users would be a lot less :D

I say, the collectors should dump them now -- just in case there IS a re-release. ;)

LET LOOSE THE FLOOD GATES!!!

:D :D

I actually have on good authority that the SFNO will be re-released very soon in original configurations.

I think if the sellers want to make any margin of profit at all, they should consider putting some on the exchange ASAP.

bring on the BirdsBeak SFNO

.

...Something like this? LOL :D

Yeah good luck!

See, Bravado agrees!

If the grumpiest goat in the barn thinks those SFNO's need to hit the market it must be true!

:p:p:p

I honestly do not see what all the whoopla is about the SFNO.

As Jaxx has posted above, it's nearly the same knife as the now available ASH-1, and the ASH-1 has a better designed handle.

And as I've stated before, I prefer the simplicity of the SH-E to both.

Hell yea...

I still like my SH-e a little more than my CG SFNO as far a usability and design.
The SH-e is noticeably lighter also...
Prices on E handles are fair so you can't go wrong...

All this talk of the SFNO tickles me. I wish I'd gone to KC and gotten one of the $287 CGs, but I do have a nice custom G-Rex model, and I imagine I'll find a saber ground SFNO that suits me one of these days. If not, maybe a flat ground CG SFNO at a show. I have a sneaking suspicion there might be one or two at Blade.

Still, like the last two posters note, I think people have really been ignoring a very comparable blade, the SH-E. I just sold one and have seen numerous others on the exchange. Similar length and comparable weight. Similar all-around knife. Regarding the polished spine SH-E I'm keeping, I paid way over retail for it, but it'll be one that they have to pry out of my hands in the old-folks home (which I hope is a mountain cabin somewhere).

I also hope all you SFNO fans picked up at least one Chopweiler too.

You who choose to publicly second guess your fellow buyers and sellers, right here among them, have certainly given me a negative impression of your character. You're quite the bunch of nattering nabobs. You sure are full of asinine assumptions and recommendations.

This doesn't apply to everybody who contributed to this thread, but to those who choose to scrutinize other people's knife deals and publicly air your ignorant opinions, here: Shame on you.

I know your not talking about me ! RIGHT?

IF SO LETS DISCUSS THIS THROUGH PMs .........................
