.38 Special!!

This is my burnt stag Grinling Whittler. I also got one in Natural Stag, that will be a safe queen for now. I am loving this knife. The clip blade is substantial enough to do just about anything I need, and the thinly ground secondary blades make some good whittling blades, once the shoulders are knocked off the secondary bevel.

Congrats, dma1965!! :thumbup::thumbup:
Your stag 38 (at least the one you're showing us ;)) is breath-taking! :eek::cool::cool::eek:

Charlie, I see that your ebony Orchard-etched Farmer Jacks are on the GEC Cover Story. Congratulations!! They look fantastic and the diamond shield and etch are first rate. I also see Lyle's Ivory Bone Farmer Jacks with the distinctive bar shield are up next. They look amazing, too!! These are just well-done aesthetically.

I like GEC's back-and-forth production strategy for Charlie and Lyle that seems to be emerging--first one and then the other, and I assume production will continue to alternate. A very fair way to roll out production. And I like the Ebony and Ivory theme that is introducing the Northfield versions!!

I am excited to say have I have both Charlie's ebony, and Lyle's ivory on reserve with my favorite supplier. The beautiful curves of the #38 pattern, the sweet rat tailed bolsters, and the thin single spring design, make this knife a collector's dream. Congratulations to all who were able to score one of these terrific knives.

I can't wait to get Charlie's and Lyle's SFO 38's in hand. The Orchard Gem is sweet, but I especially like the etch on Lyle's knife! :D :D :D ;)

Hey Jake, did you notice the "Beaver" is upside-down on your knife?

Heading to the PO to pick up my blood red Grinling along with a maroon micarta Chapman! Got a feeling my output this afternoon is going to suffer ;)

I did Barry but not until I had taken that picture and posted it up lol. I wonder if that was done on purpose or not? I'm fine with it either way but would be kind of funny if it was a mistake! :)

Really love the look of the 38 farmer jack, but how do y'all think one would be for EDC with that particular blade combination? That's the only thing holding me back from pulling the trigger. In a suburban office setting, how practical is a hawkbill and spey blade combo?

I also work primarily in an office Monday through Friday. I open a lot of packages throughout the week and the hawkbill blade is actually perfect for that task. That sharp point really digs right into tape and cardboard. :) Sharpening it might not be fun though.

I was just looking at GEC's site and specifically the 'Beaver Series', and all of them have the beaver 'upside-down'. :eek: I say they're upside-down 'cause if you look at a Northfield or Tidioute, the shield always reads with the knife resting on it's back.

Huh? :confused::confused::confused:

How about that?!?! The beaver on the jigged wood Chapman above is upside down! The SFO from the OKCA looks correct though...

It's like the monkey said when he got his tail cut off.

This was Daddy's pat answer as we traveled when we were kids. "How much longer till we get there ?" ,we'd say.
"It's like the monkey said when he got his tail cut off", Daddy would say.

What???

"It won't be long now".

That is a great etch Barry,thanks a lot.

Here is a pic of my just arrived 38's. The blood red bone on the Grinling is much nicer than it appears in my photo and the rest of its build quality is every bit as fine as it is on my stag version.

I am really just tickled with the Chapman as well. I can't stop playing with this one having never handled a Farmer Jack before. Despite being a single spring knife, this girl is no lightweight! Main blade measures a robust .125" and serves to give this knife a solid feel in the hand. While not shaving sharp the edge is serviceable on the main. The spey blade is ground very thin and was quite sharp. The knife is more comfortable when using the spey than I had imagined. Quite nice on draw cuts as your thumb can rest comfortably in front of the main and the hammer grip your index finger falls right there as well. I really like the maroon micarta as well and can see this one as a great carry.

Protos of the new "Lick Creek Farmer Jack":

Day-yuuum! They are goood lookin'! Thanks, Lyle, for allowing me to post this photo.

Comin' soon to participating distributors! :D:D:D
