4-Max?! USA Made, CPM-20CV, Cold Steel?! This can't be happening!

The catalog version looks very different from the one on the CS site, and I like the latter a lot more. The catalog version does appear to be flat ground, but why the design change, when all were enthusiastic about the prototype?
This is turning out to be a disappointment.

Thanks for the clarification philwar. I will be glad if it is flat ground, but I agree, the original design was much better. I may have to get one and get it reground or something.

Now it looks more like an XL AD10 (which is my grail)

So I will be getting one of the new designed ones-prefer it to the previously never released.

I had to look up the AD10, but you're correct, this does look more like an XL version of that knife. Maybe they decided at the last minute to sort of combine the two?

edit: Maybe they should call it the 10-MAX. :D

the custom demko has a more acute tip. What is coldsteel thinking with this broad blade/tip? Go back to the original offering, please.

I've been following this thread with interest - and it's been a little frustrating that I've been unable to comment up until now.
Needless to say there's been a lot of work going on behind the scenes.
Please see the image below of the final production model (without the blade etch) next to a Code 4 for comparison.
As you can see, it's much closer to Andrew's classic modified spear point

An update on the delayed 4-MAX project
The re-introduction of our "Custom Classics" series is no easy task - and it's a challenge that I take very seriously!
The 4-MAX represents a new level of quality, fit and finish that surpasses even my exceptionally high standards - and it also heralds the first Tri-Ad equipped mega-folder that is 100% made in the USA.

As the 4-MAX project progressed throughout 2014, 2015 and into 2016 we made several aesthetic adjustments to distinguish this knife from the Demko custom model that inspired it - including subtle changes in blade shape and finish.
Taking feedback from trusted fans and loyal customers, we have made several changes over the last 12 months, and the images below show the very latest (and final) production model without it's blade etching.

Over the last few years we have made steps toward using more and more American materials, including a vast increase in the use of USA steel, and I am proud that the 4-MAX project will become Cold Steel's flagship 100% made-in-the-USA folder.
I am happy that I am able to finally begin making knives entirely in the USA again, but it has not been without it's challenges, expenses or difficulties. It is a labor of love, and though it is a difficult and costly knife to manufacture, the 4MAX has surpassed even my expectations for excellence!
In our continuing tests, the 4MAX has already proven to set new standards for strength and durability, and we believe it is our strongest knife to date.

We will be updating our website and social media platforms with more information regarding the release date of this impressive knife very soon!
Thank you for your continued patience - and I assure you, it's worth the wait!

Thanks!

Does it have to be etched? Can't there be one without the cheesy etching of the name of the knife... on the knife. Hopefully it won't ruin the look of it[emoji22]

Thanks!
It's an amazing knife Cold steel ! I pre orderd 4 and I hope to get them at 2016 , I am positive it will be the best heavy duty blade ever made, I have a custom made 4max full flat and an ad10 in convex grind and I can't wait for the CS 4max, I hope you will make the grind thin so it will be a fine cutter like my code 4.
I appreciate the upgrade you made in 2015 to better steel, that upgrade turned me into a cold steel customer.

Looks fantastic. I'm not on any pre order lists, but wish I was.

I believe this knife will be an instant classic.

+1 for offering it either without the etch entirely or something extremely subtle. This is a very different knife from the common cold steel fare and it should be treated as something special. Billboards on a blade are a major turn-off...

As the 4-MAX project progressed throughout 2014, 2015 and into 2016 we made several aesthetic adjustments to distinguish this knife from the Demko custom model that inspired it - including subtle changes in blade shape and finish.

This is the part that shouldn't be messed with! I can understand some of the logic in wanting it to be your own but most of the appeal in this knife is being able to get an affordable 4-Max. For me the fattened blade shape and the finish + etch ruin it. The updated picture is definitely a bit more flattering for the new blade shape but it still looks to be the same one as the etched blade in the previously posted picture.

Finally, in response to a lot of other posts about the blade grind I would definitely prefer a flat grind as well for this knife but I don't think we can level that as a criticism against the new design. I'm 95% certain that the prototype had a hollow grind as well from what can be seen in the few videos posted from blade shows. Also aren't most of Andrew's knives hollow ground anyway?

If I could have this knife any way I wanted it would definitely be a very high flat grind (like the prototype), very minimal drop to the point or at least a drop that starts very far back and doesn't drop very far, a satin finish, and NO BILLBOARD.

I am really looking forward to this one my bank account isn't but I am very much. Hope to see it available soon

Thanks!

Thanks for fixing the blade. I dig it. Now when can you take my money?

I love the new look even the old one looked nice too, looks tougher and won't show wear as much.

And just like that, I'm back in. The picture with the Code 4 (one of the best knives CS has ever made, as far as I'm concerned) put it over the top for me. I'll be ordering one.

USA made ? One worth buying. Probably won't lose value.
