.45 ACP vs 9mm vs .38 Special

John, Would you like to borrow my Charter Arms Undercover to shoot? These little 5 shooter 38's are the last great value left in American Revolvers in my opinion! I've had mine for 25 years and like it more every year. Not the refined craftsmanship of your old Colt Detective Special, but You don't need to 2nd mortgage the casa to purchase! (and it's lighter, my old steel model weighs 16.7 oz with a bobbed hammer and Pachmyer grips. The new alloy frame models weigh about 4 oz's less). As cheap as $298 at Buds. They even claim to be releasing soon, a 5 shot 45acp revolver at about 22 oz!

I recently got a Taurus Model 85, so I`m covered. They have released the 5 shot 45 ACP, I just read the reviews about it.

.45 acp Hornady Critical Duty out of a 3" would be pretty potent, IMO.

Critical Defense and Critical Duty are my go to rounds.

Me to.
I have four 15 rd mags I keep with my Beretta M9A1; two loaded with Hornady's Critical Duty and two with target ammo.

.45 ACP is less expensive to shoot than .44 Special. I looked at the .44 Bulldog earlier this year and thought to hold off for the .45. I will have to go look again. The Bulldog system for rimless cartridges seems to be a little picky, but maybe the best out there not requiring a moon clip.

.44 Special is pricy! I keep my 3" S&W 629 loaded with .44 Special Silvertips for my bedside gun, right next to the 870 riot gun.

I have one carry gun in .45 and one in 9mm. Both are Springfield, XDs 9mm and a XDm compact in .45. I tend to carry the XDs the most since I got it a couple months ago and use 124g+p PDX Defenders. Here is a slightly older pic.

I keep hoping someone will post some pictures of their carry choices.

Nice Gen 2 G17!

Thanks. Back when I had a job, one of the guys in the office bought it, put one box through it, and decided he did not like it. I got it, 4 10 round magazines, and a box of ammo for $300.

That's not bad at all!

I had a chance to buy a Gen 3 Glock 22 RT2 for $320 and I passed. Looking back, even though I'm not wild about .40, I should have bought it.

This one is a 17C, so there is no recoil to speak of, great for quick follow up shots.

I could have picked up a Gen 3 17C for $380 out the door, and stupid me passed that up too :(

The only reason I don't carry the 17C is because I find myself being out and about at night more often. When winter comes and I start wearing hoodies/jackets, I'll switch to OWB carry and put my TLR-1 on.

I've owned many caliber pistols, now I keep only 3...None are what your asking about (.380, 40S&W, 44 mag), So I have no dog in this fight...
