Honestly, I need to stop reading Bruce's threads. They make me weep and feel like a doofus when I look at his work and compare it to mine :(

Just kidding Bruce, your tutorials are always fun to read edutainment

I'd say, "inspirational edutainment"! No kidding, nothing is quite like one of Bruce's WIP threads. Those of you who started making in the pre-web days will understand what a boon the net is. For you young guys, imagine what it was like to see pictures of work like this (well, there really wasn't any but that's another story) with no idea how it was done. The learning curve was much longer in the 70s, I believe.

Hi James,
This is what 20 years of the knifemaking disease will get you. Everywhere I go and everybody I talk to eventually the subject will get to knives. Its a sickness I tell ya.

David, your right about the pre-internet days. Big clear images like these were not around anywhere. Even the how-to books had dark poor quality pictures and the makers were not readily available like we are here. The new makers (all makers) have so much info at their fingertips now.

The only downside I see with the web is I spend too much time on the computer instead of the shop.

A sickness indeed...

Many times it has occurred to me that Bruce and many others on this forum alone have essentially written their masters theses before our very eyes. Absolutely invaluable! Thanks gentlemen :)

I wasn't going to read this thread, I thought I will never make a pistol/folder, so why waste my time. Bruce I apologize, this is one of the most interesting posts I have read in a long time. Thanks for sharing. It reminds me of the saying" The improbable is done t once, the impossible takes a little time." Man your good.

Bruce,
I've been watching this thread a lot. Not posting too often, but definitely watching. I have one word.

Amazing!

Thanks men for all the great things youve said about me and my disease.

OK more progress, in fact its going out for a few weeks for the engraving in the morning.

The blade is assisted by a 3" long coild spring under the left bolster and ivory scale. I used "inletting black" to show me where all the high spots are so I could remove material from both the bolster and scale to give it and the rod some space for traveling.

I also finally got around to proofing the barrel. I know I know why didnt I do it before now? Because I knew it would pass the test, thats why. I used 138 grain lead ball with 24 grains of pyrodex powder and touched her off 3 times. The ususal load is 16 grains but I adjusted (by grinding off the spout) the powder measure down to 14 grain for a sweet shooter.

I spent all day sanding things down and matching scales and bolsters. Its down to 600 grit and ready to send to Tom Ferry. I cant wait to see what he does with it.

:D Man I'm just grinning from ear to ear. That's a fantastic - in the "fantasy" sense as well as the "Wow - Cool!" sense - piece of work, Mr Bump. You surely are something special. When this thread is finished I'll archive the whole thing and make myself a slideshow of all your great pics. This is so instructive, illuminating and inspiring (call me "mr alliteration"! sorry) that I know someday I will overcome my machining hesitance and give this kind of project a ... shot. ;) This is truly fascinating. Thanks Bruce. Like you, I can't wait to see what Tom Ferry does with it.

Thats great Bruce. What they all said. Now when are we going to see a Bruce Bump Musket with a self deploying bayonet. I am sure one of your current customers must want/need one of those. LOL

Every aspect of this piece is mind boggling Bruce!!Will this one be getting a Coop glamor shot upon completion?
