4th knife Stubby Frame Lock - WIP

Thanks leu!

I've done a bit of cutting with the angle grinder in the past so im pretty handy with it :D I cut most of the way through with the angle grinder then broke the last bit through with the Dremel. but I'll give your technique a go too!

just tried cutting out a liner and it's super hard! How are you supposed to cut this stuff. I don't have a metal band saw or anything. My other knives I've just cut out with the angle mK Pp grinder.

if you have a drill press get yourself some REINFORCED Dremel Cut off wheels and a mandrel. Chuck that sucker up in the drill presses chuck and put the liner to be cut in a el cheap drill press vise and put the drill press on say a 3000 RPM setting and run the lock back and forth. do the same for the short part of the lock.

If you do end up trying this method use very light pressure with the cuts, otherwise you will ruin the bearings in your press.

Right. you'll probably break the dremel mandrel before you really do anything harmful, make sure to turn your drill press up to the fastest speed it will go! The reinforced cut off wheels will make zip through the Ti like nothing.

I'll try it, but I don't see how it could cut better than a 1mm thin cut off disk in an angle grinder. It's pretty much a bigger vision of what you described.

isn't an angle grinder pretty much a hand tool that's not stationary? Maybe i'm misunderstanding! I just remember angle grinders being hella loud!

6-4 titanium is a bit harder to work with than 304 stainless, but not too bad. Though I've never ground much of it.

Tim, your effort looks really good. You might want to double check the tutorials and make sure you're getting the lock geometry you want. Otherwise, titanium is good and springy and makes a good lock material.

I cut my liner in that Ti with the drill press and dremel cutoff wheels. Just take it very slow, you will get a nice perfectly straight line.
Do a check on eBay for "slit saw", you'll find some.

here how I cut the liner,
after I drill two holes.
I use a cut off wheel .035 falcon
of course, I own a compressor
one time I try dremel just to aboid the noise
and end up burning my dremel:mad:
titanium it's not as hard as sometimes we think
best regards

Thanks for the info everyone but I'm not talking about cutting the lock at the moment. I'm talking about cutting out the whole frame. I don't need precision yet, just speed. The Ti is about 4mm thick.

before I have a bandsaw I use
a hand grinder for cutting and profiling ti.

4mm =0.157inch that is thick!.

Don’t try to cut all thickness at once
Just scratch the surface whit the tip of the disc little by little.
And to profile,
Work on the edge, be patient.
and wear protection
Maybe by your next one you have a band saw.

Looks like I have to do it the slow toxic way. The sparks are cool though, so much whiter and brighter.

Sorry for the lack of updates but there hasn't really been any. Work is really busy leading up to Christmas/new year. For some reason everyone always wants they're new furniture before Christmas:eek:

So i haven't had much time to work on my folder. I got to work on it for an hour this arvo and got it all profiled up. Still can't believe how light this stuff is and how differently it reacts compared to steel.

I may have to profile up a new blade. I cut the angle weird with my last attempt and was having problems with the lock coming off half way and locking it half open. I might be able to figure something out but there's not much to play with.
