4th knife Stubby Frame Lock - WIP

A few people suggested I add some jimping on the lock and another stand off on the other side of the thong hole. The extra stand off actually made the open/close smoother. Thanks Eric.

Ball detent went pretty well. It falls off a bit but it sucks it in and holds it closed well. I've attached a photo of a pocket clip sitting on it, what do you reckon?

Never show the inside of the knife, that where all the ugly is that we try to hide. Hehehe. Seriously, it's looking good. Clip looks good, but I'm not a fan of clips. Given any thought to anodizing yet?

No big deal. you know what to do for the next one :) Nice pocket clip..did ya make it?

Hadn't really thought about making one. I just style this off my box cutter ha ha.

Ha ha I know right? I'm not a fan of the looks of pocket clips but you can't go past them for practicality.

Tim, lock Jimping looks really GOOD!!!

Hey pal,

Happened across this thread while rustling up some lunch and feel like I just found out the book I've been reading had the last chapter torn out.

I'm really impressed with the journey you've documented here and how great your first attempt at a frame lock has turned out. Minus the things you've already noted you'll be correcting in v2.0, I really like that design.

There's SO many relationships and measurements to be aware of every step of the way! Which is exactly why my prototype is still constructed of MDF and laying in a drawer out in the shop.:D

Anyway, get us an update and let us know how this story ends!

Ha ha, I know right? I got that far just before christmas. Nearly 2 months ago! I had a few more blades I wanted to do before I sent it away did ht. It's been at ht for the last month :grumpy: but word on the street is I'll be getting them back this week!

Finally after nearly 2 months at the HT i got my blades back!

So i went straight to work finishing the little folder.

Fresh from HT

When i started sanding with 400# i noticed some nasty little inclusions. I'm getting from the HT process. weird. So went down to 180# and sanded them away.

Sanded it up to 400 and started attempting to get an edge. After several position changes. I decided this was about the easiest way to do it. I filed it with the little course diamond file to get the rought edge. Then i cleaned it up with my fine/extra fine diamond water stone.

Nice, Tim!! Good to see it finished up after all this time. Looks good.

I was shocked when you said the other day you waited nearly two months for heat treat. Are you keeping it in country, or are you sending it here to the states or somewhere else? That seems like a REALLY long turnaround:(

Looking good. Horrible how long it takes to get some finished, isn't it?

It certainly is.

It is a really long turn around. The HT is in Australia but its in another
State. Sending things interstate here is like sending to another country. Haha. It was mostly because the long thin kitchen knife warped when they treated it. So they had to wait for another rwl batch to fire up the oven and reshape it. That aside I still don't know why it took as long as it did.
