5” Blade Spyderco Police Model!!

Hey True North,

1:1 ratio on a folding knife is challenging.

Hi Jbmonkey,

Pretty much same everything, just longer. Slight change in opening hole location on the "Handle Forward" version.

Sal, thank you once again for listening to your customers! The fact we can bounce ideas off you and our input is actually taken seriously, it’s extremely rare and appreciated.

Updated info on both versions of the 5” Police! Copied from thread on Spyderco forums.

“It's in queue being tooled. It's an experiment of mine to see your reaction to two solutions to the space between the handle and the kick on mid lock-backs. We're making a Police model with a 5.0" blade. There are two variations. They are exactly the same' Blade shape, grind, material, edge and heat treat. Both will be G-10 scales.

There is a gap between the front end of the handle and the kick. On the Endura family of mid lock-backs, the gap is left as originally made. I have been trying to do determine the best solution to do something with the space or gap.

The difference between them is the way the design handles the gap, while still leaving the kick where it is. One solution is to create a "finger choil", which can be used to choke up to the blade. The other solution is to move the front of the handle forward to the kick. We call that "Handle Forward".

We will make 1200 pieces of each variation. There is not plan to make a second run at this time. It's possible we could do anything. It's one of those; "I don't know. Let's try it and see what happens"?

Hope that helps?

Good news! Hopefully there will be a way to pre-order the handle-forward version. I would hate to miss out on what might me a permanently limited run.
Haven’t seen Spyderco release a new model, in the last few years, with running them in the ongoing reveals! That would generate ability to preorder (knife center) at certain online vendors offering that option!

Perhaps when the Cold Steel Tri-ad lock patent expires , Spyderco will make their own version to use on 5+" blade folders . :thumbsup:

Hi Acutereference.

The runs will be a test of handle types. The scales will be G-10 and the blades will be VG-10. We don't know if we will do more than one run? That depends on demand. If demand is there, variations are possible.

Sal:

Do you have an idea yet on when you'll be doing these runs & how many of each choil/no choil that you'll be producing?

Hi Sgt,

They're in queue. As to when, we won't have any idea until after samples are approved and even then it's a waiting game. My plan was to make 1200 of each variation. When it comes to new concepts and tests, my attitude has always been; "I don't know, let's try it and see what happens"?

In my experience, I have learned that speculation and prediction is always "throwing the dice". I remember, on a few occasions, what I had expected was completely disrupted by reality. This is especially true in testing. Lab testing is very valuable, but "Real World Testing" still gives me the best look at truth, assuming the results are not corrupted.

In these modern times, hunting truth is elusive game. Seems like there are those that would bend the line, just to get your money.
