I have been talking with a shop near me that has tons of 5160 scrap. They want me to buy it all at once or it is going to the scrap yard. It amounts to 500 sticks that are around 4' long and 1/4" thick and 1 3/4" wide. I can't really store this much steel and don't know how well it would sell. I think that if I got it I would make like a 5 stick minimum at around $6.00 a stick plus shipping. Should I let it go to scrap or would there be enough interest to make it worth my while?

If you can afford it, get it!

In the long run I think it'd be worth it.

It is a decent steel, dontcha think?

Yeah it seems alot of people use it but I cannot store that much steel in my garage. So if there is enough interest then I will consider getting it but I would really rather not just get it and sit on it.

Sounds like great stuff. I'm definitely in for 10 or more bars depending on shipping. IMO, you should snatch it up. If you have to means to get into the biz, it'll go before you know it. Keep us in the loop. Good luck.

BTW, These are truly flat and not formed/bent or shaped in anyway right?

Thats good to know. I think you will generate a lotta interest and it seems like they put out a lotta scrap. If you can get this off the ground and they can constantly give you that supply, I think you would be well received here as I think lotsa ppl (new or experienced) here are looking for cheaper steel sources. Especially with everything rising in cost in the US.

If you're going to sell it here on the forums, you'll need to upgrade to paying member status.
That said, it looks like some good stuff there. It's got more carbon than any other 5160 I've seen analyzed.

You can upgrade to a paying member status for about 40-50 dollars, depending on the membership you get, and I would imagine you could make that back fairly quickly. I for one would be interested.

Count me in also. I'd haven't used 5160 yet, but like to use it for larger camp style knives.

Depending on the cost of shipping I'll buy 10-20 bars for myself. Perhaps more if a local maker wants some also.

Buy it! Plenty of people will buy the steel from you.

Well it seems people are interested in it so I think I will go ahead and pick it up. I will post up the details once I have it in my garage.
