5160 Interest

If you're going to sell it here on the forums, you'll need to upgrade to paying member status.
That said, it looks like some good stuff there. It's got more carbon than any other 5160 I've seen analyzed.

i thought that the "60" in 5160 meant something close to 60% carbon?

I might be interested in 5 sticks, I have never used 5160. How is it for stock removal?

Carbon levels for 5160 are .56-.64 ,but this is 5160H which is melted to specific hardenability levels so carbon range is .55-.65. Steel is always melted to a range. Most of the time nominal composition is listed.

I'd find out what scrap yard they use, then depending on how much they'd charge you to buy it by the pound, let it get taken then buy it from the scrap yard, may work out cheaper that way!

I will try and pick it up early next week and post it up. I can start shipping it out probably mid to late next week. I will have to upgrade my forum to be able to post it to sell. I have to do some research to see who is better and cheaper Fedex or UPS.

Well the local maker is interested in some also, but I don't have a definite answer on the number of bars yet.

Will you be accepting paypal?

5160 is good steel. I passed my Journeyman test with it as well as many many other ABS smiths. It forges very well and heat treats great.

I would for sure be interested in 5-10 bars. I'll check back in to see about the shipping, would be very interested :)

Same as Mike said for me. I'm interested in ten at least, but the shipping cost is going to be important.

keep us posted and I would like in too--never worked it but want to give it a try. azmike
