5160 Interest

personally, I'm stuck between 10 and 20 sticks for myself, and knowing that lou wants a few and there's probably a few other folks offline who'd want a bit around here.

shipping cost is paramount- I can get more steel if the shipping is lower :)

If there were enough people within a seasonal drive I'd suggest freight and going in together.

Burton, How can i contact you?.....Would you be available during the day...?....I will be towing an atv....If we cant get together on my way over, i can stop on the return trip......Going after a big buck....you can call me at 513-726-6968..cell 513-839-0801..........carl combs...........Hamilton, Ohio 45013

Yeah it is annealed. It hasn't been hardened yet. The shop next door was machining it then sending it out for hardening.

I'd be in if I weren't in Italy. Pretty expensive to have steel shipped from the U.S.
But get it. 5160 is an excellent steel. Hardens well, deeply and easily, thanks to the chromium content. Maintains a fine grain, and is very tough and springy, ideal to make thin, springy blades with a hard edge.
It's easy to forge, will move well under the hammer, and if properly stress-relieved before quenching even very slender and long blades won't warp easily (or at least, not as easily as other steels) during quench.
It will give a good edge, easily in the 59-60 HRc range, and a very tough blade.

Well I brought the first batch of this home today I should be posting it up soon and shipping it out. It seems between UPS and Fedex that Fedex is cheaper. The 5 stick bundles are going to be 30lbs 54"x2"x3".

How much $$$, I am in Morgan Hill Ca which is just south of San Jose.. How do you want the money sent to you?

Thanks
Allen

Sorry that I hadnt paid more attention to this thread. As always getting good steel supplied is a great thing, but if you intend to sell here on BF , you will need a membership. Not my rules.

I have paid my membership this morning I don't know how ling it takes to go through but I have recieved a confirmation that my payment was recieved. I was waiting to get a membership before I placed it for sale and this tread was only to see if there was interest.

Burton,
I won't be able to go online tomorrow AM until Thursday PM ref. knee surgery.
So, please let me have your Paypal address, so I can order the 10 sticks from you before I go "under the knife". If I die on the table, please give my steel to Sam Salvati. Thanks
- Mitch
P.S. Sam, you can't have my Busse's; my son is getting those.

Best of luck with the surgery, Mitch!

Thanks, brother. Just for that, Sam now has to give you one (1) stick if I die. Hey, ya never know. I don't want to see good steel go to waste.
- Mitch

Jeez Dude!

Talk about projecting the worst!
Seriously though Best of luck for a quick and relatively pain free recovery!
