More details please. Coating, blade thickness, weight compared to the older versions etc. How’s the sheath fitment?

recon scout and trailm...coating isn't smooth like the O1 steel version I have. think that one was a Teflon type coating. this one feels like some smooth grit to it...but could just be Teflon with some texture in it?

blade thickness on both seems close to other models I have. I only have 3v and o1 recon scouts. trailm I only have japan made san mai and Taiwan san mia and a 3v. didn't measure it though.

didn't weigh them.

sheath on these two seems better than secure ex normally. feels like more room to not hit blade edge, but still secure snap.

I'm not much on checking stuff for measurements and doing reviews and such. just wanted folks to know theyre real and price isn't bad for what it is. I didn't do anything with them yet to see how they do. im gonna assume being Taiwan made they'll be good.

How dare you make me think?

Also, I'll probably get the RS first. I've got lots of ~9" blades Bowies from CS.
If I ever get one it will be the RS .

Already overly supplied with bigger ones . ☺️

Assuming these have a good HT etc , great/smart move for GSM to make available more affordable , and tough steel ,versions of these models .:thumbsup::thumbsup:

The Cold Steel brand name may actually survive after all ! ;)

yep. its hard for me to imagine the Taiwan factory not doing a decent job like they always have. it's nice to see gsm doing some high quality with affordable price points. especially nowadays with high prices everywhere.....

Exactly !

For a TM / RS type knife , that a buyer intends for hard use ( not just a photo op ), performance is very important .

But great value has always been a hallmark for Cold Steel .

Heartening to see this kind of ethic returning to the brand . :thumbsup:

I will say this: whichever OEM produces Bowies for Cold Steel does not always grind them to a consistent thickness acrossthe various versions. For example, I ordered a custom kydex sheath for my O1 Trail Master (ca. 2018) and the kydex arrived too tight. The sheath maker confirmed that the model he used to mould the sheath was a newer 3V Trail Master which was evidently ground thinner. The flat bevel was thicker on my O1 model than on the 3V model, while everything else had the same profile and dimensions. Fortunately, I loosened up the sheath after 20 minutes in the garage with my heat gun, so all was not lost.

The point is that even if the primary dimensions of the knives are the same across versions/runs, finer details like bevel thickness may vary significantly. So, if you're looking to order kydex then you ought to first confirm which version the maker will use for a mould and consider just sending in your knife for a custom sheath.

that's my hypothesis and reason why sometimes the secure ex doesn't fit right. I know as I've tested same model knives in one sheath. some fit well and some don't. it's a tolerance issue. not obvious to the eye, but enough it can cause secure ex issues with some knives.

I found them but was just wondering why only one site aside from an auction site seems to have them and other major sites don't, not even in the "coming soon" section, even though the Kukri has been out for some time already.

At least one of the big retailers (BHQ) shows them on their site as of now.

Probably just a matter of timing getting them distributed out to dealers.

ETA: “52100” is not listed in the main product title on that site above, if you’re using that to filter your search, but the specs list it once you find it.
