52100 Recon Scout

Somehow, one of these arrived at my office this week. The grinds on mine look nice and even and egads, is it sharp. I'm accustomed to Cold Steel delivering sharp blades (both Old Steel and post GSM), but I think this one is the sharpest I've received from CS.

I haven't measured, but the secondary bevels seem thicker than my 3V model.

If anyone's our there watching this and trying to decide which one to buy, if you can't do both (!), I recommend the Recon Scout. As awesome as the Trail Master is, I believe the RS is more practical. As a matter of fact, unlike many "large camp knives", the RS IS actually practical! Even with its 5/16" spine, it cuts well. It can chop, A little, but chopping gets old pretty quick, so that benefit of the larger TM has limited value. The RS is really easy to control and a useful tip. If money is really tight, check the "WWII island battle" online store for a sale on the Drop Forged Survivalist. Its a truly excellent knife and the blade profile is a dead-ringer for the TS, in much thinner stock, of course. Hope that maybe helps someone!

Has anyone bought from Chicago knifeworks before? They have the 52100 Recon Scout for $123. BHQ has them for $150 but they’re a reputable company

I would rather order from BHQ, as they are a BF supporting dealer. That said, Chicago Knifeworks was the first dealer I found with these new models in stock and I had zero issues with them.

same. no issues with them other than being a drop shipper and slow shipping from the distributor......

Got mine today from BHQ, sharp, light easier to carry than the Trailmaster with a typical oversize CS sheath. I've had the 52100 Drop Forged Bowie from way back and a San Mai Trailmaster, which was too nice to use. I'm not sure if I'll go for the 52100 Trailmaster yet.

Looks sweet, thanks for posting.

Is the primary grind a bit goofy when looking from the top? My 3V versions are both ground a bit uneven.

Still like them tho.
Can confirm the grinds are super clean and even on both of my 52100 Recon Scouts. It's like they were made in a totally different factory than the crappier 3V Recon Scouts/Trail Masters.

I second this mind both my 52100 trail master and recon scout are absolutely perfect in every way seriously sharp to I was talking to a lad who’s took the coating off his trail master and reprofiled the edge already lol just so it cuts logs faster and more efficient i was impressed by his video but he wanted it to be on par with his carbon v trailmaster he wasn’t to happy that the cutting angle from the factory on the 52100 was 30 degrees apparently he said it’s terrible lol hes a bit of a perfectionist i must say
