I think Burlap lost its momentum once people spoke out for why they would prefer the Canvas or Linen of Burlap as I think many of the Burlap voters had an expectation of something more like typical micarta.

For those of you who chose burlap micarta, you should check out this thread and re-think your decision (unless you like little voids in your micarta).

Burlap and denim are poor choices for a micarta base material due to the loose weave; linen and canvas much denser and less air pockets; more base material and less epoxy filler.

That is a very poor example of burlap micarta compared to what buck is using. I recomend you look a little closer at Bucks since that is what this is.

It seems like the type of burlap micarta Buck used would make a big difference in the traction of the handle.

These are both burlap micarta by Buck. The burlap micarta on the Sprint (first picture) looks to be much grippier and less glossy than the burlap micarta on the 501.

I would expect it to be like the more recent 110 and 501

Lol. And I would hope for burlap micarta like on the Buck Sprint pictured above that was just released a couple months ago, it looks so grippy.

The glossy burlap micarta on the 501 sure looks great though.

Not into the G10. However, you can't go wrong with any of the Micarta's. I do like the layered linen Micarta the best.

I found my burlap Micarta 110 and checked it out...no dimples or pin holes, but more slick/slippery than I'd like. Voted for Canvas Micarta.

So, you're out in the woods and need to build a fire, but since you don't have your Buck Froe with you, you use your new 104 and a chunk of wood to baton a few pieces to start your fire. Which handle material would you be more comfortable with using and confident would come out unscathed; the mostly resin burlap covers, or the mostly canvas CM covers?

I think with the flat ground D-2 steel, we should go with a comparable 'bullet proof' handle material, of which CM is tough to beat. This is a working knife pattern and deserves the most indestructible material for handle covers; G-10 may be tougher, but there is a cost trade off that may be more significant than the durability of the material.

VOTE CANVAS MICARTA!

just my humble dumb-arse opinion. your opinion may vary.

g10 isnt might be tougher, it is tougher. cost wise for Buck i doubt is much greater than micarta.

the burlap and linen will hold it's own to the canvas micarta. g10 beats them all in durability and strength.

the only argument here is "I want it", and that is a good enough argument on it's own. :)

Just because burlap micarta is pretty doesn’t mean it’s not tough. And from what I’ve seen Buck burlap micarta is a lot better than some of the examples that have been shown from other sources. Like others have said we don’t have any bad choices on this poll. They’re all good tough materials. It’s just personal preference choice. Mine happens to be burlap.

I think canvas would be sweet for this knife! I have one of SK's 501s with the burlap. It looks and feels pretty good in hand. There are a couple of those small pinholes / voids, but not a big deal at all. I am struggling to picture it on this knife, though.
