#6375 Case Large Stockman

Ranch Man from Arizona,

I understand this is a collector's forum. People here, myself included, appear to have been struck with some kind of affliction that embeds in us a need to constantly be seeking that next knife. It's not dissimilar to the symptoms of an addiction to crack cocaine. Despite the nature of our small community, I must say that I get a kick out of a man that loves his knife. (Note the singularity of that word) I don't think I've ever seen somebody more satisfied, or more in love, with their knife than you are with your Case stockman. The average forumite here, upon becoming so entranced with a single knife, would seek out every iteration of that pattern. They'd be buying clones of their knife with different shades of bone, stag, wood and whatever synthetics that they could find. I love that you have your knife, you're happy with your knife, you have the desire to share that happiness with others, and you don't seem to be looking to surround yourself with others just like it or, heaven forbid, looking for something you like even more. In the short time I've been on these forums your knife has been the subject of more photographs than the next five knives combined. Don't you dare stop now. Even though I've never been within 1,000 miles of that knife, I've seen it enough that I've grown an attachment to it. Not only that, I've grown an addiction to reading about your fondness of it. Kudos to you for finding the contentment that we are all seeking. You lend hope to those of us that still believe in the fallacy of finding that one perfect knife.

Gosh I'm humbled! Now I do have other pocket knives believe it or not. But anymore those tend to get occasional duty whereas this 6375 keeps ending up in my RFP and seems to dominate the #1 spot as my primary EDC. I have two GEC Northfield Stockmans (an 81 in African Blackwood and a 66 in Blood Red bone) that do get time for sure. But yes, this big amber bone Case just appeals to me like no others do. I can't explain it, but it just does! It just feels right in hand and it's a handsome lug to boot. :)

I am glad to hear it is so nice, because I have the same model on order and expect it any time now. I work in an office and wear Dockers or dress slacks, but still edc the 4 1/8 inch Case Large Amber Bone CV Trapper with no problem. It slides to the bottom of my pocket and never falls out or become uncomfortable in any way, so hopefully this will not be a problem either.

Congrats! Pics when it arrives please :)

I've seen your posts about your other knives. I always read them in my head with the tone of disconnection that you would associate with a teacher speaking about her students. (This one shows great progress, that one has a promising future.) When you post about your Case stockman, I read those posts in the same tone you would expect to hear from a proud parent beaming over their only child, who came about after they were told they could never have children.

I'm reminded of The One Ring from Lord of the Rings. Not that you're Golem, mind you. More like Bilbo when he's trying to leave Bag End for the last time. Gandalf has to keep reminding him to leave the ring behind, and it just keeps turning up in his pocket somehow.

"It's in an envelope over there on the mantelpiece... No. Wait. It's... here in my pocket. Isn't that ... isn't that odd then? (starts whispering feverishly) Yet after all why not? Why shouldn't I keep it?" (Bilbo)
"I think you should leave the ring behind Bilbo. Is that so hard?" (Gandalf)
"Well no... and yes! Now it comes to it, I don't feel like parting with it!! It's mine!! I found it, it came to me!!!" (Bilbo)

:D

Ha! The greatest story ever written I dare say! I know what you mean :)

Arizona ranchman,

Just a great knife, you can see your scales darkening as well from your use and carry, of course the blades too. I have a 032 texas jack in amber bone, and its a great amber color like yours. That amber is a winner. Now if only...we can get a 6375 in chestnut bone then I'd be carrying another knife! I am tempted...to get the case sowbelly in CV with chestnut bone instead!

Regards, SJF

I figure I should stop salivating and post one up. New guy here and this is my 6375 1984. #2 variant from what I gather.

I have and had others too. The 6375 often makes it in my pocket. It's just a great pattern.

I'm thinking I need a stainless version too.

Nice! That's a cool color bone on that one. It seems the blades are hollowed differently on that one. Must have been how they did them for that era.

That's in great condition for 30 yrs old :)

That's a pretty good first post. Beautiful stockman!

Howdy and thank you. From what I understand this was during the short lived "new grind" or "shoulderless grind" period between 1983-85.

I thought the one at the top was a medium, but I am confused now. The bottom one is certainly a #6375. I don't know that much about the different sizes, it is a nice pattern though. I ended up with a couple of them.

I'm no Case expert, but there are at least 3 large stockman -- 6347 at 3 7/8" with round bolsters, 6392 at 4" with square bolsters, and 6375 at 4 1/4" with square bolsters. The top one might be a 6347.

VERY cool! It's about 50+ yrs old? Can you share some more close-up pics sometime when you get a chance? That's in great shape really. What's its length? The 6375 is 4.25" closed. Is the 5375 the same? Thanks for sharing, that's an old classic!

Yes, made somewhere between '40-'64 I believe. Not much use but a subject to poor storage.

I think thats from earlier in the '40-'64 era. That larger "CASE XX" Font and the large "S" in Case on the shield indicate early for that period. (Someone please correct me tho if I'm mistaken)

Excellent full blades. Thanks for the pics. :)

I want to love the amber bone, but most I've seen in person were too light or had too much orange for my liking.

I took my CV STJ 032 amber bone and dyed it with coffee and tea, turned out awesome. took away the bright orange and darkened up the light bone. very happy with it.

After reading your thread, I'll be getting 6375 amber bone. I'm interested to see how it ages naturally.

Hoping the hardware store still has them in stock!
