#77 Barlow 2016 - What configuration would you like?

GEC-ILLUSTRATED%20%281%29.png

The green looks good, but I'm not in love with it. :D

I've got one in the Copperhead and one in the Bone Micarta reserved. Feeling like I made the right choices for me. Looking forward to seeing them!

Looks like a lot of inclusions on this micarta, or maybe that's just what this particular type is like.

Oh man, now I really can't wait to get my hands on that micarta. I was bummed I didn't get a green after seeing the pics yesterday but that white micarta is perfect. With time, the aging of the all steel construction and that micarta is going to be awesome. Thanks again Mike, another home run.

The Bolsters look to have a matte finish on both the greens and the micarta, the cover photos on the GEC website are usually of finished knives , no? Fingers crossed that this is the case, just my personal preference, I reserved a micarta and copperhead.

Hmm, not the prettiest micarta every, but not terrible either. I'm thinking this might get some use or might get swapped for a copperhead once mine arrives. I love the blade and long pull. Can't wait to see more pics of it and see it in person. I wonder if these all ship to CK as they get done or once all four covers are done?

This is my first rodeo with the SFOs. Can anyone shed some light with regard to the timeline between completion and availability through Collector Knives? Also, do all the knives get shipped when they are all completed? Or do they get shipped piecemeal as each batch is completed? Can you tell I'm a little anxious? :p

I believe that Mike waits until they get to him before he sends notices. My guess is middle of next week

To me, the bolsters on the sawcut look polished. My bet is that the bones are polished and the micarta is matte. But just my hunch.

Ugh, really like the micarta. Going home to drown in my sorrows for not picking one up lol.

Mike's micarta usually has satin bolsters. The green barlow looks kinda like satin in some of the images, but I bet they are polished.

Quick question for any that have handled the other 77 micarta barlows. Are the handle slabs flat and beveled on the edge like bone and wood or is it more of a convex shape? Looks convex to me but hard to tell in the pic

The edges and butt are rounded on the micarta models, and usually on the wood slabs on the 77 Barlows. .

Thanks guys. I had a #15 tc a long time ago and the slabs were flat. Appreciate the info, sounds like it will be a better user in hand

I asked Mike about this once in an email. If I remember correctly, he said that 77 Barlows are rounded (my word, not his) at the butt, unless they can't be. Saw cut can't be, really, or so he told me. So smooth bone are rounded, wood is rounded, micarta is rounded. But sawcut is not so rounded. My big question...what will the jigged bone be? This is the first ever jigged bone 77 barlow. So we'll have to see. I'm thinking it will be like the sawcut, not so rounded.:D

I should note: the first run of 77 Barlows were different. The African Blackwood cover 77 Barlows from the very first run had butts that were not so rounded. That's one reason I've held on to my blackwood. Personally, I think Barlows should have the not so rounded butts. That's why my favorites of the 77s are the saw cuts (and my first run African Backwood). I understand that many prefer the rounded butts, too, so I guess I'm glad there's something for everyone between all the cover options ;)

These are looking just great! Any insight on the "specs" seen in the Micarta pictures? Looks like perhaps an unrefined/raw material was maybe used to make the Micarta? Something like you might see in genuine burlap Micarta... Whatever it is, it looks great and really adds character to each knife!

I prefer a nice round butt for sure, but let's stay on topic. Jk

I do prefer the saw cut shape on the 77 over the rounded wood.
