#77 Barlow 2016 - What configuration would you like?

I like the new blade profile but it looks like the run up sticks WAY out. It's especially noticeable in kenspen's photo. And btb01's photo makes a nice comparison with another barlow. So there seems to be some trade off with the new design. On a single blade it's not going be noticeable in use. Though it may be more noticeable in the pocket. I'm not sure if I prefer the earlier clip blade for this reason... haven't made up my mind... and I don't have either knife (at least not yet) to compare in hand.

Either way, they're good knives.

The pictures exaggerate it just a little bit. And the 14 does have very small run up. The run up on the new 77 compares to an 85 very close. Not sure how they measure up to the old clip 77 as I dont have one to compare.

Finally got them today. That's the biggest issue with shipping to my office, no Saturday delivery. The colors came out amazing!

Here's a comparison photo with 2 old clips and 2 new. Profile definitely seems lower on the old one but hey you can't have it both ways right.

Personally, I love both versions of the clip. For different reasons!

I just checked my new 77 against my 772215 Yankee Jack (spear blade main), and measure 1/8" on either one where the tang pokes out. Not exactly sunken joints, but it does seem worse in the photos.

There has to be more run up. The knife was designed to be a "pinchable" blade.

Thank you for the photos, guys.

There's definitely give and take. But that is not true.

As an exaggerated illustration: Put any clip blade knife w/ the blade opened on a piece of paper. Draw a dot 1 inch from the peak in the spine of the blade. Connect that dot with the original point and the original edge of the run up.

Fine shots! But that micarta is really something, suits the knife right down to the ground. I would not want to part with that one.

The differences between the Clip styles of this run and comparable GECs is interesting, good variations. But for me the argument is academic, Spears rule my Barlow roost no question :D:D

Thanks, Will

Interesting. Could you draw a pic and post it? I think I'm following but a pic would help. Thanks!

Hey guys, thought I better weigh in here on my pic. That photo was done "tongue in cheek" and is a photo shop product. When I extracted the 77 from its background the result produced the run up being mentioned. I didn't even notice until it was just pointed out. Here's the pre-photo shop pic:

You'll notice my amateurish photoshop cut off the entire tang stamp. Sorry for the confusion.

Thanks for the clarification, Ken. I knew it was photoshopped but overlooked just how much of the tang you cut off. You cut off quite a bit!!

I see your point. Do you think the clip would lose its aggressive look if the spine was that flat to the tip?

I don't understand your question about the "aggressive look". But the illustration is just a simplification and an exaggeration. There would be other changes also. And the lines aren't exact.

Also, this particular knife is probably not the best random example to pick because it is already pinchable.

Just got my Bone Micarta in the mail today (I think I might have been last on the list). I'm curious, am I the only one whose Bone Micarta looks like it was manhandled by an auto mechanic? :D

I'm not really complaining, though. It has character.

Here are both of my new #77's.

I like your micarta very much, it's my favorite of the bone micartas I've seen so far. Thank you for sharing the pictures, and congrats on your new 77s.

Barrett, honestly the most character of all bone Micarta I've seen so far...many would try to achieve the look you already have:cool:

Very nice buddy:thumbup:
