#78 American Jack

Pàdruig, that is simply gorgeous! Beautifully photographed as well.

That's a phenomenal example you've got there! I've been trying to find a dealer photo with similar grain.

You sold a bunch of these with the fine photographs...yowza !! And the Fiddleback is to die for !!!

Thank you for the compliments, fellas. I am rather surprised my pictures turned out so well. I didn't feel like I had captured the character of the knife as well as i would have liked.

...and so did the Desert Ironwood

Excellent F&F as good as I've seen on a GEC.
Great walk and talk with a pull at a solid 5.
Definitely a keeper, well done GEC & The Knife Connection, thanks!

James, that is such a stunning knife, I am simply in awe. You have an exceptional example and your pictures are simply wonderful.

I do have some regrets on not being able to scoop up an Ironwood in time, they all look terrific, but my Cocobolo assuages some of that.

Why is it I can still find the two blade versions on vendor websites when the single blade versions are getting snapped up? I can easily find a two blade version of the #14 Lick Creek Boys knife today as well.

I know I am in single blade fan camp for most of my knives (new 78 on its way to me now) but is this the usual sales result? Do they produce more of the two blade versions so it gives the appearance of them not moving off shelves as quickly?. How many frames come up with the single or multiple blade options and is this the usual result?

I just recently picked up a 2 blade 14 myself and it took some looking for me to find one in the covers I wanted whereas just a month or two ago, they were more readily available. That being said, I think it is a general rule of thumb that single blade variants, especially in regular jack patterns, tend to be more desirable. The 14 and 15 patterns are excellent examples of this. The 2 blade variants sit around for awhile longer where the single blade versions get snapped up pretty quickly.

Desirability equates to being more collectible and vice versa, kind of a chicken and egg thing...

Has nothing to do with it. We have been increasing our orders in hopes of being able to stock items for more than a couple days. Since this was a run where the factory asked for numbers and built to dealer orders - we got all we wanted. Not to mention they are not even due to arrive until tomorrow from the factory; and have only been publicly accessible for about 15 hours.

Not to say that some people would be more likely to purchase one if they could see multi-angle shots of every knife in stock. Only to say that providing that adds significant cost It is a one man show around here. And that one man spends about 60 hours weekly on the supplemental income as it is. My sincerest apologies for not having several employees to make the process smoother, but my business model in its current form only works because I count my time at near zero. And some days I feel over-paid....
Since the knife police have not arrived for commenting about talking specifically about the 78, I will comment. Wow. 60 hours! One man gig. I got a Christmas card from you with the whole family's names so I figured you had the whole family working it.

I just don't like how the 2B version of the 78 looks with both nail nicks nested so closely together on the same side. Plus I keep my nails short and I'd be afraid accessing the main would be difficult.

I complained (sort of) about this very issue in post #331. However, after extensive handling of my 2 blade examples (SWB and Cocobolo), I have to say that the closeness of the pen to the nail nick on the main is absolutely not an issue in use.

Really not worth debating too much. Sellers can sell however they want, and buyers can buy however they want. There are more than enough options.

Personally, I will always choose to see what I am buying in advance if I can. But others prefer to be surprised. To each his own, and there are pros and cons to each method. For example, by the time I was able to pick this Ironwood, many better ones had been scooped up. If they were just mailed out blindly, maybe I would have gotten an even better one or maybe I would have got an extremely poor example. But would they really be mailed out blindly or would favorite buyers be rewarded?

When it is all said and done, I would prefer to have some little bit of control.

I am having a tough time waiting on my cocobolo preorder to be available to complete payment. Trying to keep from ordering another handle scale model from anothe seller.

The ironwoods are nice but the shield ruins it for me. Ironwood naturally has a lot of flow and swirl to it and that prop shield is too busy. It disrupts the natural flow and swirl that I like to look at. I think the hot dog shield would have looked great on there.

I agree. But got one anyways...

I think your doing a great job with customer service second to none !
Also the fastest shipper I’ve ever had and happy to be a Collector knives customer .
Just wanted to say Thank you .

I do prefer both nail nicks on the same side, but would rather the main be a clip if the secondary is a pen. The single blade 78's are appealing to me. One in cocobolo ordered today. :D

I had one reserved so should be on the way soon from what Mike just stated
Also have a single blade Ebony reserved :D
Now I’m wanting a smooth white bone lol . But have to wait until Friday hoping there’s still some white bone left !

Although it was a very nice knife, the pen blade was too thin and long. Thin making it so that even if you dropped the kick as much as possible while still having access to the nail nick a solid number of sharpenings would make the tip proud, and long so that it made getting to the nail nick of the main somewhat awkward.

I have a single blade in the same material, smooth white bone, on order now.

Got my single blade Smooth White bone in today... probably the best f&f w&t of any traditional I've had the pleasure of handling.... Also received a Weasel today in a not popular scale option but the Tiger Eye is pleasing to me....

The best out of any?? Really?? That good?

I’m not sure the Hot Dog Shield looks good on ANY knife !!!

What is it about the hot dog shield that people dislike so? It is FAR from my least favorite. I'd prefer no shield on a lot of knives, but I'd certainly prefer something simple like the hot dog shield over the bollocks or cloud or unxld shield.

Banana too. What's next? A hamburger or an apple?

An apple shield is a great idea. Could go on smooth red or smooth light green bone handles.
