#78 American Jack

A 2 blade 78 has some serious heft to it whereas the Churchill is going to feel just like your Delta Jacks as it is still only using a single spring.

Of course, the customary answer here for such a dilemma is to just simply get both. :D

Here is a pic demonstrating the difference in width between a 2 blade 78 and the Churchill:

I am going to have to get a churchill.

Will the single blade 78 have the same golden brown jig bone as the double or could it be unique?

Got my 2 blade #78 Cocobolo today. Beautiful knife but probably should have picked a different version. I scored an Ironwood #66 the day after ordering the #78 and they are just too similar in wood coloring now that both have arrived and the 2 blade is way heftier than I think I want for pocket carry. The #66 seems the perfect EDC size for me. Sometimes these things sound good in your head but once in the hand they just don't mesh. Probably should have tried a #78 single in white bone, or possibly a Churchill but even my #35 Calf pen was the limit is heft/size I think.

I have a #13 Clerk and love the long Warncliffe blade which causes me to be tempted by the #48 Improved Trapper with the two really slender blades but that is a pretty long knife, probably comparable in heft to the 2 blade #78 I imagine. (longer, but being more slender maybe the same weight)

First world problems. If any of these had been my "only" knife i would be thrilled. The problem comes I think with owning multiples.... one starts comparing, then the others are always "too" something, too small/large, too light/ heavy, too fancy/plain, etc....
Great feedback. I have only the single blade in camel bone and I was thinking what the thickness of the 2 blade would be like. As well, It would be in stag and I always go with thicker stags, so it might be overly thick.

It is a great knife and probably fine in size but I just find myself liking smaller and slimmer knives now days. Even my bushcraft knives are now smaller for the few tasks I require of them. I can really see the appeal of Case Peanuts and the GEC Beagle/Coyote now as for me much of the time my knives are just pocket jewelry and fidget spinners except for the odd task.
Any medium to large knife usually sits on my desk at work so pocket carry had not been an issue but with retirement around the corner there will be no more desk time so I want pocket friendly, old man "puttering around" knives now.

Can't believe that I just grabbed my 78 1B Smooth White Bone off of my porch. Now to open and fondle it without the wife seeing (mission impossible theme playing in the background)

Ha! I found mine in the mailbox today too. I really wasn't expecting it before Christmas, thanks CK. The wife was out with the baby so I had some peace to open the package. This is a great knife. I love the beauty of smooth white bone. I also have the two blade in white bone and really can't decide which one I like better.

Wife went into the shower, daughter watching The Grinch, I freed the 78 from its saran wrapped package ( you can always tell a CK package). I was impressed with my black micarta 78, but, this one is actually a little better in the F&F. I would have rated the black micarta as a 10 of 10 on F&F until I fondled this one and saw how smooth the it feels. I really could not find a flaw on the black, but, when comparing the feel in hand the brass liners are a slight bit sharp as compared to the babys bottom smoothness of this one. Both of these knives are finely finished, centered , have excellent walk and talk, good pull, and actually have a usable edge that shaves hair. I really like the smooth white bone, my first, not crazy about the shield but, can't have everything. Kudos to GEC now the wait for my natural micarta.

The hot dog shield is boring but I think it is perfect for smooth white bone because there is no color contrast anyway, so I think the simple hot dog just blends nicely and does not distract the eye from the bone. There is really a lot to see with the bone, grain, subtle color changes, etc.

I have to agree the hot dog is boring and not offensive and it does not stand out against the white bone covers.

Yes, very much so. Lately I think GEC has been getting better.
Ha ha ha. I was pop quizzing you. I feel the same. I have one that is a little darker. I will try and post a picture. The fit and finish is good and am overall pleased with the transition lines and blade centering.

You guys and gals are killing me over here as I wait chomping on the bit for my Cocobolo and smooth white bone single to arrive Hopefully Tuesday !!!

That pair looks like they belong together. Very nice! Cool that you got them in time for Christmas.
