#78 American Jack

Squidman, that was the best one according to my eye. At least one other person agreed, because it is sold. So far, it is the only one sold. I think that numbers one and two look nice as well.

Great question about whether this is the best run of 2017. These 78’s are certainly in the running because of the pattern and the great handle materials. There was truly something for everyone. But, the 25’s are not to be taken lightly. Who knows when they will return. I snagged a Pioneer Bone 25 that is one of my favorite knives of all.

However, I believe that over the next few years, the 35 Churchills will look like the Knife of the Year. I normally only buy single blade knives, but took a chance on a Cougar Clawed 35. All I can say is it is incredible in every way. If you think you would like one, get it. When they are gone it will be too late.

I'm thinking of adding one two blade knife and it's between this in white bone or the Churchill but can't decide. I have two single blade 78s and two Delta Jacks. Decisions, decisions.

Blanco, if you already have two 78’s I would strongly recommend the Churchill. I hope that does not violate the rules of this thread, but you would really like one.

A 2 blade 78 has some serious heft to it whereas the Churchill is going to feel just like your Delta Jacks as it is still only using a single spring.

Of course, the customary answer here for such a dilemma is to just simply get both. :D

Oh wow, that is a considerable difference. I was leaning this way because I like the two blades in this combo better as well but that you and Leslie Tomville Leslie Tomville pushed me over the line. Thanks guys.

Knife Connection has the single blade Cocobolos up for individual viewing! Good luck! Some of them look pretty nice, but I am going to hold pat with my Ironwood. Those Ironwoods still seem to be the best of the entire 78 run so far. Of course we have yet to see the Appaloosa and Stag. Thank you KC for taking the time to put up these photos. This hobby can get expensive, and I appreciate the additional help to make wise decisions.

I know of 2 gone now at least. I really liked #15. Will post more pics when it arrives.

That is a big heft difference . I don't have a 2 blade yet. I have a stag on reserve and I always go with thick stag so I can imagine that will be quite hefty. Also, if the 2 blade is hefty, then I can imagine the M & G 3 blade. I have been going back and forth with pulling the trigger on that.

Nice choice. I almost bought #15 too, a couple of times, but ended up choosing one from another dealer who also posted photos of individual knives.

At the end of the Maher&Grosh run there were some leftover parts and they put together 5 knives with smooth red bone handles, I was lucky enough to get one, these M&G's are easily my favorite knife from this run of 78's.

Wow!!! That is some stunning red bone. I sure hope GEC makes this color bone in the future.

GEC absolutely hit it out of the park with the covers on this run. I love the deep blue.

Wow, that's about the best dye job I've seen. Beautiful blue!

Camillus, thanks for the information. Barry’s Cocobolo 78’s look very good. Did you get “E”? If so, congratulations!

Got my 2 blade #78 Cocobolo today. Beautiful knife but probably should have picked a different version. I scored an Ironwood #66 the day after ordering the #78 and they are just too similar in wood coloring now that both have arrived and the 2 blade is way heftier than I think I want for pocket carry. The #66 seems the perfect EDC size for me. Sometimes these things sound good in your head but once in the hand they just don't mesh. Probably should have tried a #78 single in white bone, or possibly a Churchill but even my #35 Calf pen was the limit is heft/size I think.

I have a #13 Clerk and love the long Warncliffe blade which causes me to be tempted by the #48 Improved Trapper with the two really slender blades but that is a pretty long knife, probably comparable in heft to the 2 blade #78 I imagine. (longer, but being more slender maybe the same weight)

First world problems. If any of these had been my "only" knife i would be thrilled. The problem comes I think with owning multiples.... one starts comparing, then the others are always "too" something, too small/large, too light/ heavy, too fancy/plain, etc....

Still waiting, (on my pre-order) still trying not to buy another single blade model in another handle scale. But some of them are nice especially the micarta models.

I hoped that you had purchased “E.” Of all the ones shown online, that one was the best looking. I can’t wait to see your photographs of it. I am sure it will
look great. Good score!

I'm looking forward to seeing some pictures of it. I'm curious too if it is as red as it appears. I like the red though!!!
