#78 American Jack

Looks like they got a really good supply of stag for these jacks. I found the stag selection on the last couple of models, the moose and the churchil, to be a little lacking. There were some gems but your really had to pick through and examine a lot of photos. Tons of figuring and popcorn in the progress pics for the AmJacks

I think I'll pick up one more of these 78's. Not sure which one yet though. I really wish they would do a run of natural stag. Did they do that at all in 2017?

Anyway, this blue one of mine is a keeper.

This run of 78’s is one for the ages. It just keeps getting better and looks like it is going to end with a bang! I should just sign over my bank account and be done with it. And it looks like they are going to have a Northwoods Barlow as the grand finale. Thankfully, I am just not a fan of the Northwoods, but I know a lot of you on the porch are!

Received mine a couple of days ago but it has been too cold to get some good pictures taken . This is a fine knife and I like it a lot . It is going to get a fair amount of pocket time but it can only get one pocket and the other pocket will have to be something else like what happened today . I fully expect the color of the covers on this 78 are going to wear in very nicely .

The size of these double blade 78's makes it feel like a real working knife , which is for me a positive thing .

Well, I gave my #78 White bone ( single) to my brother. He now owns three GECs, all in smooth whitish bone. Here it is next to his #77 & #14. They are “Smooth Ivory Bone” to be exact. Quite a difference in color.

Wow, I forgot how great the true "ivory bone" looks. What a great trio!

That's some incredible stag... wow.

I'm not trying to be coy, here. I'm just trying to follow the forum rules. Basically, my understanding is that you need to call the orderer of the SFO on this one.

After speaking with their Customer Service today, the orderer of this SFO doesn't have plans to list them on the website, so you need to call and order via phone.

I recently picked up the single-blade black micarta SFO as my first venture into GEC and was so impressed that I bought one of these single-blade Peach Seed variants.

My second Cocobolo single blade has arrived . Can’t wait to get home tonight to check this one out

How did you find out about the Northwoods? I am a big Northwoods fan!

Tom K.,

There is a discussion about it on the most recent pages of the Let’s Talk GEC thread. GEC accidentally (on purpose?) posted a photo clearly showing a unique 78 pattern with a Barlow bolster. They were a similar in color to the jigged amber ale Beer Scouts. The speculation is that it is a Northwoods Barlow that will be dropped soon. KSF hinted as much on their Instagram page last year. Good luck Tom, I hope the rumors are true for your sake. This will be a hard knife to get.

I asked about it but the dealer didn't have any left to exchange it. If I was a collector I think this would be a tough issue to overlook, but I decided to keep and use it. Still not excited that it came from a dealer with an obvious scratched spot on the blade.
My smooth white bone also came with two faint scratches on the blade and a small crack next to a pin. I'm not worried about the integrity of the knife, and plan on this being a user, but it does dull my enthusiasm for an otherwise great knife. I have two more coming, an Appaloosa and a Stag, so we'll see if those have any of the same issues.

That's certainly a bummer. My NF jigged bone came with a small black streak mark on the blade that wont wipe off. I guess it's some kind of corrosion.

Thank you very much! I will take a look at the thread and keep my eye out for it.
