#78 American Jack

Heirphoto,

I will send you a message with the details, and I will post a photo of my box when I have an opportunity. Is anyone aware of good threads on knife storage methods? I would be very interested in seeing how different people manage and store their knife collections. Maybe it would be a good topic for a new thread?

I typically think longpulls look classy, but for some reason on this particular knife I’m really liking the regular nail nick. It just looks good on that spear blade to me based on all the pictures I’ve seen in this thread.

I like the look of long pulls in general too and since they generally are indicative of a bit more work and nice attention to detail when done well, it is nice to experience that in hand. With that said though, I do agree that the simple nail nicks on these 78s have a nice charm to them. It just speaks no-nonsense functionality and I like that quite a bit.

Once I get my ebony in, I will be comparing the two and see what I end up preferring once I get to play with them a bit.

Saw on IG the ebony is shipping to distributors tomorrow. Just say no!:eek: They are pretty handsome.

Peachseeds are all gone.

Leslie, Here is a thread about storage that comes up once in awhile.

Quick snapshot, received in mail yesterday...nice "ivory" coloring by GEC on this one. Was planning to make this a user but didn't expect such clearness in the smooth white bone...looks like going to end up with six 78's after all is said in done. I really love the way the breadth of the 78 spear blade widens from base to tip ala the 85 bullet jack.

I wonder if there will be any Appaloosa Bone models released to the general public or if they were all snatched up by pre-orders. Anyone know?

I asked in the site's preorder question area and the reply was "all accounted for." I really like the Appaloosa and would love to get one... and an Ebony... and a Stag... and a Blue Bone... etc, etc. I'm a huge fan of this single 78 Smooth Bone that I picked up, and am waiting on the SMKW SFO to arrive.

Sad that I missed out on the appaloosa and the desert ironwood...

and the blue bone...

and the black micarta...

Finally received my micarta 78. I have to resist adding another, but, what a great run. Quick shot before the wife gets home. The finish is not what I initially expected, was expecting a finish like the black micarta, but, I like the way the micarta has a wood grain appearance. Another really well built and finished specimen with nothing to complain about. This one has the strongest / best pull of the examples I received.

Very nice trio! I will end up with three myself, one more than I was initially counting on but couldn't help myself. And unless one in Ironwood becomes available, it will remain at three, I think...

Could the difference in the finish of micarta be because one is canvas and the other is linen?

I have a couple other in natural linen micarta ( 85 & and the recent #81 Bullmoose) and they are finished differently, they are more matte and have a different texture/feel. That is my favorite micarta, but, this does have a nice woodgrain appearance unlike any knives I have. I think that these covers are polished, does any one know the difference in finish

If she only knew. This place has been a bad influence on me :)

I agree. Between this forum and the GEC picture updates on their site and I am a goner.

I have an Appoloosa pre-order and a red linen on the way. I wanted a CK SFO but missed out. Now I find myself thinking about a tortoise shell SFO.

I feel your pain. I told myself...and my wife...I'd pass on this run. Seems I will have to apologize to both parties.

I think you are confusing natural "linen" versus "canvas". GEC will polish linen - they won't canvas. This is the first natural linen they have used to my knowledge.
