940-1's are shipping now..................

With all due respect, as long as you guys continue to patronize BM, they have absolutely no motive to change their level of QA. You'll continue to drink the Kool-Aid, they'll continue to release a sub-par, many times overpriced product and you'll continue to purchase it, instead of voting with your wallet. I love the Axis Lock. It's the only reason I continue to own a BM product. I still have a MiniGrip and pre-owned 940 that I really love. When I first heard of the 940-1 and the 531, I had them on pre-order. I then read of the recent antics by BM and how their QA apparently has gone down the crapper. At that point, I decided to cancel my pre-orders and take a "wait-and-see" approach. What I'm seeing, especially with the 940-1 doesn't appear good. As an informed consumer, I will continue to vote with my wallet. That seems to be the only message that any manufacture understands. This holds true with any product and/or service. It's a shame that others can't seem to do the same. Carry on and good luck with your products.

Meh....We are 1%ers of the market place. You will hear any and all imperfections here first. Its the way of the internet. It no way represents a accurate example of quality control for a production knife. Most sane users will not go over a new knife with a loupe to see if its 1/20th of a millimeter off center. I have had minor imperfections from ZT, CRK, etc... I could self correct most.
OCD runs rampant and is almost encouraged on the knife forums. Most just want a lightweight tough knife that cuts stuff. Forums are a great place for camaraderie and information but a bit of perspective is required to keep it in a real world application.

You need to slow your roll a bit, to avoid coming off as a troll. No problem at all in posting a dissenting opinion, but at least choose your words with a bit more thought before hitting submit. If you don't like the products, fair enough, just don't buy them. Stop pissing up things you don't agree with. You can do better. You aren't putting a flag anywhere and everyone already understands what you are saying.

My 940-1 came in today. Its rainy out but I had to take a few pics.

Its perfect in every sense. Probably the best EDC I have yet to own. I found the balance great even as lite weight as it it is. Comparing it to my 930 that is 1.88 oz, I cant feel a weight difference. That is saying alot!!

The action was very smooth. No blade play and centered perfect. The grind was even spot on. I am very impressed with this one. I must have flipped it 500 times so far and its only getting better. Another day I will disassemble it, clean it and oil it with G96. It will be like glass by then. Shaving sharp. The stonewash should be extremely durable. Over all, its a sexy knife and makes my 4oz knives seem heavy. Considering how popular the original 940 was and continues to be, the 940-1 with its carbon fiber and pillar construction should go down as one of the greatest Benchmade knives of all times. Its a "have to own" knife.
Here is some size comparison.

A few more on a sunny day:

I just received one today and I've gotta say it's a sweeeeeet piece. No issues here with mine and I'd let a pre-order slide after some earlier/continuing comments posted. My first 940 despite a herd of 25+ other Benchmades in the herd amassed over the past 15-20 years. This one's really nice, if a little steep price wise. I'm lucky to have some Spyderco Millies and Para 2's in CF S90V, but this is the bomb.

My 940-1 finally came in today and I have no issues with it. Looks great but it will get a silver split arrow clip put on it.
Time to order another one.

Mine is supposed to arrive today. I've been on an Osborne spree, 810 on Monday, Rift yesterday and the 940-01 (hopefully) today. I've been buying mostly spydies and ESEEs lately but the boomerang butterflies have been calling :).

I have my 940-1. Great EDC knife. Light, strong, super slicer. Here, along with my 810:

The three newest acquisitions (showcased on my somewhat over the top death spade bandana :D )My 940-1 came in great shape, centered blade, even bevels, reasonably sharp and no blade play in either direction. Only complaint was the noticeable gap between the cf scale and pocket clip. While trying to bend the clip (I had removed it from the 940) to increase retention it snapped. First time I experienced that, so I stole the clip off my Franken-rift and now for me it's perfect.

I just received two of these. I only bought them because I had a $500 credit at a certain dealer. I am not a Benchmade fan. My two are centered, smooth, and have no blade play even when the AXIS is disengaged. They couldn't be better.

Mine has to go back to BM. The point is off one direction and the spine is hitting the CF on the other side. As I have been reading, It looks like BM's QC bit the dust on this one. Also the pivot screw was falling out and all I did was tighten it down with my thumb, no T8 driver just my thumb and the blade locked up. There is no locktite on the screw and the blade is so dull it had a hard time opening a letter.

The beginning of this thread had me wanting to order one of these, eight pages later, I think I'll pass.

Fear not, fence sitters.

My 940-1 arrived at my local brick and mortar shop. I paid less than MAP, but nowhere near as low as the $199 some of you paid. I had my choice of two, and both were reasonably centered and "Benchmade factory sharp". This is to say that it cuts paper, but my definition of "sharp" is impossible to achieve in a production knife. Aside from my 480-1, this is THE lightest folder I own. It almost feels fake.

Glory:

Just got notification from Benchmade my 940-1 should be returned to me Wed. I'll report the condition it comes back to me in. I can only hope that it is way better than when I sent it back. The design, feel, size, weight, is great. To bad it was able to leave the factory in the condition it was in.

I got mine on Saturday. I was disappointed when I unboxed it and saw that the blade was darn near rubbing after asking the knife store to check it before they sent it. It took me about 15 minutes to pull apart, clean, lube and do the centering trick (wedge), but now it's perfect and I'm loving it.
