940-1's are shipping now..................

Got mine in today (ordered from their website directly). Awesome knife. Seems more blade heavy than the alu version but could be my imagination. Mine came pretty much centered, and the edge is sharp but very obtuse (doesn't much matter since I always resharpen). No first-production logo either, so for those of you looking for that specifically, they seem to be shipping that way directly.

Finally got a chance to pick mine up from my local brick and kortar, I handled 5 and picked out the most perfect one. They all were really close, and only one was off center. The other 4 did have more blade play than mine, but im sure that after theyre broken in and readjusted thatll change. My factory edge was also the most even of them, however obtuse, that was the area they most differed in. I reprofiled mine as soon as I got home anyway, and diamond stones took care of it and then brought up to polish in less than an hour. Im looking forward to using it, and I think its going to accomplish the feat of kicking my 586 out of my pocket.

I just received an unmarked blade one from a BF member dealer so presumably from after the first 750. Blade perfectly centered and good blade pivot adjustment as far as lockup and side play are concerned. A beautiful knife with the CF scales and delightfully light weight for the same reason. Blade grind very slightly asymmetric. Overall a gorgeous piece of cutlery IMO. Is this now a standard production knife or a 2014 special edition?

Been carrying mine for the past few weeks now and it's done a great job of kicking everything else out of my pocket. Mine arrived centered with a decent edge. It's been awhile since I've owned a Benchmade, I'm glad I picked this one up.

It's a mystery why Benchmade allowed the CF scale screws to visibly penetrate through the liners. Could it have been a production oversight/mistake with an attitude of "oh well, they'll sell anyway?" Beyond my comprehension.

I've pondered on this quite a bit as I look at and use mine. The regular 940 scale screws are too short to use in the 940-1, so BM must of not countersunk the CF as much as the Al ones. Since the old screws are too short, it appears that BM just decided to use the spacer screws for the scales. Perhaps to save costs and only need to stock 1 type of handle screw. I can think of another reason. Still one heck of a knife.

Mine arrived tonight - blade centred, no blade play, razor sharp edge.... lovely knife.

I have the green aluminium scaled one and love the ergos but didn't warm to the handle material - big improvement on this.

Sorry to hear some of the earlier ones came of with poor F&F, looks like they got that sorted.

Picked mine up for $200 from a local shop. Centered, sharp, even grind, no play, free swinging. Love the blue back spacers! Pictures don't do the CF justice. Absolutely stunning in the sun. Sorry for cell pics.

I checked out a couple a local dealer had, none were numbered, both appeared centered when first inspected, but had very loose pivots, you could easily nudge the blade to hit either handle scale. I didn't ask to tighten them to see what happened to the centering but I've never handled a BM with a pivot that loose out of the box.

Fit and finish on these seemed okay, no obvious defects, grinds were pretty good as were the sharpening angles, no CF defects, lockup was solid with no vertical play, pivots were smooth but, as loose as they were, that's no surprise. I actually prefer the balance compared to the aluminum handle, it's closer to the pivot and not as handle "heavy". Grip was okay, I'd prefer more texture for a real use knife like Spyderco does on the Manix 2's, but right now smooth CF is like meth to the knife market.

Price out the door, no haggling involved was just over $200. If you can fully inspect one first, and you get that price from a local dealer that's a pretty good deal. At the internet dealer handicapped price of $263, it's still not bad, especially when you consider in BM's new reality a plain black blade 940 with S30V is now $195. But when you consider a ZT 0562 CF or 0620 CF can both be pre-ordered for under $205 each.....it's not great either.

#350, damn 1st production run. Nice materials and overall package but in comparison to recent releases of similar materials by competitors a barely usable although even edge. And lacking attention before boxing up.

I just got mine today; must be the second run as there no "xxx of 750 First..." label. I thought BM would get the kinks out by now as my 940 is off-center worse than in your picture. The blade is almost scrapping the CF handle. Unacceptable workmanship, especially at this price point. This is my last BM.

940 is on its way to your repair department.

I had a feeling MAP pricing would do this.

Is this merely a foreseeably ironic result, or did Benchmade know that this was likely to happen? :(

...I had a feeling MAP pricing would do this.

I actually expected that MAP pricing would result in BM products going out the door with proper QC and not require the final customer to send it back in to be fixed. It should have been made "right" in the first place. I had to pay extra for postage and insurance in addition to MAP pricing. From the previous posts in this thread I am not the only one with a problem with this knife.

I am a long time BM fan/owner but that 940-1 is sexy as hell. Mine is comming on Friday. I purposely waited for a 2nd run without the extra blade printing. The only thing I didn't like about my previous 940 was the aluminum scales of I see the 940-1 becoming my primary EDC.

I got my 940-1 through Blade HQ. It was not one of the first 750 and is thus not marked. I got it as a $5 pre order.

I love the CF and blue barrel spacers. The s90v is okay - it doesn't seem much different from s30v, although I've not used it for much cutting. The stonewashed finish on the blade is nice too - very gray.

What I don't like is the gritty feel as the (stonewashed) blade stock rubs against Axis lock bar. Fortunately the grittiness is going away with use. The other thing that sort of gets me is the pocket clip, which seems a poor compliment to the CF scales. I'm having a timascus clip made that will be anodized to match the barrel spacers - then the 940-1 will look like a Gold class knife!
