I want to love the 940, I really do. It should check all my boxes, but these changes come nowhere close. As others have said, first and foremost it needs a better steel (I love the S90V they used on my Amicus). I get it, they want the basic 940 to be knife enthusiast's "step up" knife but lime green spacers seem to be a cheap way to do this that won't sell that many more knives. Adding colored spacers is a Kershaw move (ex. the $25 Kershaw Entropy), not a move by a company charging the better part of $200 for a knife.
.I think the blade shape is what I dislike the most. But it appears to be a good seller. When I hear the name "Benchmade" , all I think about is the 710 and how much I love that knife .
Your knife is a prize. Since I love the 710 so much the 943 has a very short learning curve. Compared again, the difference in weight is amazing for a blade nearly as long.
When we did a poll a couple of years ago about Your Top Pick of Benchmade Knives the 940/943 came out on top after 514 votes!
Do you remember what came in second and third, Ram?
The first three numbers, after all of these years, remain the mainstay of Benchmade's success. The names Osborne, Pardue, and McHenry/Williams come to mind.
I'm liking this one. I have never understood all the love for the 940. To me it was too slippery and felt a bit too light (I like at least a little bit of heft to my knives, otherwise they just feel a bit cheap). Also never cared for the green and purple combo. I would be much more apt to give this one a try.
