A-2 Trail Master

I hope the tantos dont head this way...
3V Recon Tanto is discontinued and so is Magnum Warcraft Tanto.
I consider getting another SK-5 Recon Tanto before they switch it to 4034. I'll probs wait till they discontinue it and then buy one from old stock. I wanna be sure of that happening before I give them my money.

I suspect that they will. As best I can tell they aren't even producing San Mai blades any longer. I believe that what you see is just old stock selling down. I imagine this will be the case with the 3V stuff as well. If you want it you better buy it.

Given what I have seen from them this year, I would personally hesitate before I purchased anything from them that might be new production.

Think this will trickle down to the SRK ? Id hate to see all these knives get cheaper steel.

If they'll do it with flagships then there's no guarantee Recon Tanto, SRK or even Warcraft Tanto are safe from same fate.
For all we know maybe SK-5 models are already out of production or Cold Steel is using old stock of SK-5 for them, and new one will be 4034.

SK-5 is by no means high end steel, but is tough and holds a decen edge while being easy to resharpen.
In comparsion to that, low end stainless like 4034 either won't hold an edge or will be prone to chipping. I won't even mention rolling issues if left soft. And when we come to resharpening (which you'll be doing a lot considering edge holding of 4034) it has very stubborn burr and likes to form wire edge.
