A Can of Camillus

Great idea for a thread, Gev. Many of my favorite knives were made by Camillus. I wish I’d gotten into knives before they shut their doors. :(

As for a photo, how about one of opening a can with a Camillus? :D

I gotta say, seeing these beautiful old knives just adds to the sting.
To see the factory turned into appartments is just plain sad.

Less sad perhaps than having the last traces demolished and destroyed. It hasn't been used as a factory for a decade, at least the historical building has been saved.

Since Camillus Cutlery closed in 2007 there's been a toxic waste cleanup project and a fire at the site. The building in my picture was the office building. The factory buildings were demolished after the fire.

I hated to see them go under, but I'm pleased to see a developer at least renovate what they could. Although the project is called Camillus Mills it looks like they are going to keep the Camillus Cutlery signage for posterity.

If I was looking for an apartment, I'd consider it. Nine Mile Creek, one of my favorite trout streams, runs right next to the site. I could roll out of bed and be on the creek in a matter of minutes .:)

I am also impressed. The developer did a very nice job of maintaining the heritage of the old place.
