Sears Craftsman - made by Camillus 1941 - to the end, I am not sure but possibly 70's or 80's an extremely well built - I really like these knives- everyone who has one knows just how superbly they are built- those who don't know- ...thats a shame because Camillus were up there with the best of the best - these knives are Tanks yet pocketable!

Nice Thread Gev my friend!

Some real nice knives, sir! Love the trapper.

I have the same Craftsman 4” stockman, and like you, think it’s a great and solid knife. I had been thinking it was made by Ulster, but will happily go with Camillus.
The only problem with your highlighting this particular knife is the publicity. I can see the ebay prices going up already.

Whew- Gev your Thread is ramping up now with some big hitters.
MerryMad Monk- Stunning Swell Centre and Senator!
Amit - thank you - I have taken it for granted That Camillus made that Knife- next time I get it out I will look into it more carefully!
Gev - that Beautiful Cammy who is so pretty- is that one of yours?

Lyle- What a score! I love that early Farmers Jack!!

Nice thread, Gev

Gems....every one....wow !!!! Thanks for the fine tribute indeed !!!

^:D

Got this earliest Camillus from a friend in Oregon. Like a lot of these, it has half stops on the spey. Still has good action after over a hundred years.

Ramping up indeed, my friend !!!! They will have to link to this thread on a kiosk in the foyer of the Lofts  So keep them coming !!

Yes, if your talking about the green anole...yes :) He sure was...look at that pose. I have many photos including some rather amorous ones with Honey;)

I hope this Camillus Barlow does not have too much character for this thread. ;) It basically looked like this over 40 years ago when I first got it. Then I forgot about it and it got hidden in one of my old knife boxes that I keep in my safe. I would show the pile side but it might be more than y'all could stand! I found this awhile back and was debating on what to do with it. I think it might be okay just like it is for awhile anyway. :D

Forgot about the Remington R4. Poor Sears and Roebuck. If they hadn't had a "vision" problem we would still be looking forward to the new release knives today perhaps.View attachment 884951 View attachment 884949

The Craftsman is an interesting one. I've seen some documentation that this knife went through the Camillus factory, but I suspect that there's more to it. I've come across a few of these knives, and seen pictures of countless more. None of them have ever shown signs of pin peening on the bolsters. I suspect that parts were obtained through Camillus, but possibly assembled at the Schrade factory using Swindon Key construction.

Lb, I read somewhere that called Sears an earlier Amazon that lost their way.

Nice old knife Ron, how is it stamped?
Thanks Lyle! Hope you and the missus are well! :) It is stamped for the 1946 - 1950 period. It looks a lot older because it led a rough life until around 1975 or so. Ever since then it has been tucked away. Both blades are still tight and have good snap both directions. I guess that is a testament to to the kind of knife that Camillus made. :)

Thanks Gev! :) I think a little character and charm are present in all of these knives that have been used as intended.

Here’s the knife that introduced me to Camillus. Grandpa’s old easy opener with ebony scales worn from years of use. It was on this knife I first learned how to hone on oil stones. After he passed, Grandma gave it to me. I should file the kick to get that old worn main to sit lower, and have thought about fixing the broken spring on the secondary, but I’m afraid to mess with it.
