A Canal Street for 2010 BFC knife??

That is an awesome looking pattern, and I like the bone handles and the jigging, but the big gold shield with silver bolsters, it really spoils the lines on a knife like this. The stockman with a pen instead of that spey, and a slim shield, would be a winner to me.

I second the pen blade instead of the sheepsfoot.

A different perspective.

Yee Haw. . . .Errrr. . . . . . . Meee Yow!!

Greg, Ebony suits the knife perfectly. Can you fix that Godawful long pull???

Sure. I'm not sure what kind of acces you would have to it with the blades closed ??

Now that I look at this one of yours Charlie, the pull seems to work. But then it is a tad higher on the blade. Man, I do love that knife !!!

The Canal Street should have the higher pull and cut swedges, IMO.
The Schrade's lines look purposeful, whereas CS's prototype blade design looks random or accidental.
The CS looks like a "flattened out" version of the Schrade, losing some of that intentional third dimension.
They could make a class knife out of it, with some detail adjustments.

My first choice of the CS offerings would be the serpentine, either the stockman or the jack, I guess I like the jack better. Good handle shape and a little bit different, for my little collection with having 2 blades on one end. I'm not sure why everyone seems to dislike the CS shield so much, personally I like it, it's distinctive if nothing else.

I have 2 of their knives, the forum canittler, and another canittler and both have good springs. Not nail busters but plenty strong, actually the 2 smaller blades on my forum canittler are almost nail busters, pretty darn tight. I do think we'd have to ask them to pay particular attention to QA, my canittler had scale issues (actually still does, but that's just because I've been too lazy to send it in to them to be fixed). A pin popped on mine and the mammoth ivory is warped something fierce. If the pin was fixed the ivory would be fine I think. The fit and finish on both was pretty nice before the pin popped on the forum knife.

I have to admit, that with 2 of the 4 forum knives having been CS already, I would be more excited sticking to GEC. Just my druthers though, certainly doesn't put it out of the running. Oh, really don't care for the toothpicks though.

I'm not a fan of Canal Street either but when you compare the patterns that have been proposed, I could lean toward the Swell Center Jack. It isn't a common, every day pattern. Any factory that builds the forum knife has got to know what kind of public scrutiny it will be given. That alone should give reason for quality control. I too have had issues with their backsprings from their early knives. Can't say about their current ones. Getting the Swell Center with the adjustments we'd like within the $100 range is another issue. The image editeding I did only colored the scales black and won't show any contours (or lack of contours) like what is present on their prototype as shown earlier in this thread.

ANNOUNCEMENT-

OK guys, just got off the phone with Canal Street, wanted to make sure they're producing the swell center before we get any further, and they are! They're going to to set up a sample in ram's horn for us to check out, probably take a week or so to have it done. I'll pick it up as soon as I get word and snap a bunch of pictures.

Addition to the above note- they're looking at a May introduction on the swell centers for retail sales for you folks who have been waiting to order one.

The shields do patina quite nicely, I've got one I've been EDC'ing for a year, and the background has turned a nice bronze/brown. I see no reason that they wouldn't substitute it for a more traditional shield though.

Keep in mind that it is a photoshopped image of the original with bone scales.

Is it possible to reply to a post without reposting an entire post with all the photos? Just wondering.
