A few things I've learned from the forums

31. Make one or two of anything then write a tutorial on how to do it

34- To be an expert, all you need to know is absolutely everything about nothing, and making something just confuses your expertise mentality. not to be confused to (31) which pertains to the advanced expert.

When posting pictures, you must plan ahead your forum career and choose one category. Do not step outside your group:
1. Include general descriptions and no pictures whatsoever about everything. Wonder why no one can mentally project how cool "it" must look.
2. Include tiny, blurry pics of everything. Make sure they do not exceed the resolution of a cell phone camera and make sure you post both a thumbnail, then a picture of equal size and poor clarity as a full image.
3. Post pictures of everything, in huge, high res format. Dont ever hold back...everyone wants to see those pics of your new shipment of belts (Guilty as charged, in my case!)

32. Let the customer sharpen the knife.
33. Go to ever blessed knife forum on the net asking the same question, until you find the answer you want it to be.

34. get real testy if you don't receive an answer to your question in 30 min. or less. Keep on BTT

35. I have this big pile of metal I found. I'm sure I can make a knife from it, you just need to tell me what kind of metal it is and how to make a knife from it.

36 if you have enough schooling you must be right and there is no other way to do it?
37 water quenching steel is all it's cracked up to be

That is easy, as long as you know how long it has been lying there and what the average relative humidity is, average annual rainfall etc, it CAN be worked out by the amount of resultant rust on it,you know.
Enter Mete! If it turns out to be a craapy steel, blame Mete. He is after all, a metallurgist and he should know these things.:D :D

#31 really IS priceless.

39. If you've never done it before, have no skoolin' and dont understand it, there wrong and your right.

21. It's totally impossible to make a threaded hole in a knife without the Higgins Tapper.

Hell, you don't need one of those things. I'm doing perfectly well with this old pin vise.....(SNAP!) NOOOOOO! NOT ANOTHER ONE!!!

This thread is great! I'm rolling on the floor!

Even for being sarcasm there is truth in much of what has been said. :D

There are lots of idiots around here who couldn't make a knife to save... oh wait, this was supposed to be funny and sarcastic...

Uh, nevermind :p

42. The best questions go something like this - " I finished making my first knife from an old scrap of aluminum, but it won't get sharp. How do you make it hard?"

43. ORTS steel (old rusty truck spring) is the best steel there is. It water quenches in ice water to Rockwell 64-66.

Number 42 is pretty good, but I think #44 will be better...

44. "I've been making knives for several years now, if someone could tell me how to heat treat O-1, I would really appreciate it."

45 steel has molecules,,
46 you have to chrome knives to make them shine like that?
47 knives came from factories before custom makers started making knives.

I've thought about what I posted on this thread for a day now, and it's been heavy on my mind. I voiced sincere frustrations not out of simple fun but mean spiritedness. That's not right. :(

It is always better to enjoy common ground than to exacerbate conflicting differences. Personally, I shall strive for that in my future posts.

I apologize to any offended by my comments. I just feel somehow wrong for having said anything.
