A.G. Russell Curved Regular Jack

I just ordered the Wharncliffe in Smooth White Bone. I've never ordered an AGR knife before ..... no special reason; just never have. After reading the last few posts I figured any company that cares that much about what goes out their door deserves a look-see.

Phil,

Thanks to you and everybody at AG Russell for your terrific attention to detail and quality. I have one of these on order and am eager to get it, but I would have sent back a knife with the defects you picture. FYI, like everyone else, I'm delighted with my new Rucarta gunstock.

Thanks again.

Chris.

The manufacturer of the larger knives is too busy building other knives for us, like the 2011 Texas Ranger Toothpick Subhilt Barong.
Ok...that caught my attention....I'm having trouble picturing what it will look like...got any drawings?

And let me add my thanks to you for updating us on the problems with the Jack. If all the other companys would be as forthcoming, there would be more satisfied users and happy customers.
But then everyone can't be AG Russell or Phil Gibbs. :D

I have the jigged amber bone zulu on order and just added the smooth bone wharnie. It will be interesting to see how these knives compare with the Case through GEC/Northfield offerings. This particular pattern really appeals to me.

I have been buying and collecting A.G. Russell knives for many years. Still have a number of them in my collection, never had any problem with their first run stuff. Have ordered one of each version and handle material, love the Wharncliffe blade. Look forward to getting my order. May be some Christmas presents for a few of my friends in this model!!

I believe Case does their own dying/jigging of bone; Queen & GEC do not.

I hate to be disagreeable, but while I have not witnessed it personally, I have it on good authority that GEC does do their own jigging and dying. In the first year or two they did not do it, but for the last few years they have.

I do not doubt that. Any factory that does not do their own is insane. Culpepper does wonderful work, but only custom makers can afford their product.

Great news eswartz!
I am thrilled to learn that.
Thanks for the update.

Thanks for the kind words Alann45!

Here is a pic of the Subhilt Toothpick Barong:

That is interesting. Might be easier to call it the STB rather than Subhilt Toothpick Barong. Rolls off the tongue a little easier.

I run into the same thing with my Ferrari 250. I just call it a GTO instead of saying gran turismo omologato all the time. ;)

That "STG" looks great! At that size, it's definitely on my want list. I'm looking forward to seeing it in person. Hopefully it will be available by this year's "Knife Event."

Update on the A.G. Russell Curved Regular Jack.

We just received a small shipment of the knives & they are greatly improved quality!

The bad news is it was a VERY small shipment.

We will start shipping back orders immediately.
I just wanted those of you that have been very patiently waiting not to panic if you see someone got theirs & you didn't!
They will be shipped on a first come, first served basis for each of the 4 knives.

I suspect it will be a few more weeks before we get a significant shipment.

My apologies for all the delays. :o

Thank you for the update. I look forward to reading the comments from those who were first-in-line.

I've been patiently waiting for them to became available before placing my order. A few more weeks? I can do that...

(as the local TV pundits breathlessly announce for every house fire or car wreck).
In this case, it really is - here, that is.
A few quick scans:

Easy to open with either the belt or suspenders nail nicks - in fact, it can be pinched open without using either. Nicely sharp out of the box; feels very comfortable in the hand. The scans probably show the fit better than I can describe it.
The cat fur did not come with the knife:o.

So here it is without the cat fur:

Berkley, thanks for the pics. It looks excellent. Do you have any of the recent Jumbo sized AGR import folders to compare with this one in terms of fit/finish/overall quality ?
