A.G. Russell Curved Regular Jack

My sincere Thanks to AG & Phil,

A partial fill of my backorders for these knives in both blade shapes was waitng when I returned from Blade.

They were everything that I had expected. Every blade designed by AG is always delivered perfectly centered.

I always carry at least one knife because severe arthritis will not allow me to open the simplest packaging without mechanical assitance.

Regarding the aesthetics of having two Pulls on the Blade, I cannot pinch these knives open. I can use the Long Pull with difficulty, but the far forward Nail Nick is a godsend to this old artrthitic. The placement may be unusual, but it works perfectly.

My thanks to AGR and Co for another great set of users.

Hey everybody,

The mailman knew I was waiting for my new knife and must have come early today. Thanks buddy. First thing, the new curved regular jack is terrific, virtually without flaw. To say that I'm very happy is an understatement. F&F is very good, easily as good as the gunstock to my eye. Pull is moderate, perhaps a five, although I'm not all that experienced with slip joints, and judging their pull. No blade play at all, locks into place rock solid. The blade is dead center between the liners, finish inside is very nice. The fitting of the bone scales is great. If you've been on the fence about these, I say order now!

Thanks AG.

So, here are the pics, sorry to say my old digital camera is getting tired so the pics could be better.

Chris.

Recieved one of these last wednesday. It's excellent. I was surprised by how much thicker the blade is than most other slipjoints I've handled though. Very stout little knife. Will do a full review in time.

Now there's one really big problem I have with that knife.. Can't decide what handle material I like the best :)
The white bone appeals, but that pic of the jigged bone oh my!.. Might give my case Swayback Jack in stag and Damascus a run for the choice in knife lovin'....

Think I'll be ordering one this week, IF I can make up my mind..

Cheers
Harold

Differences between the SBJ (a very fine well-built knife with the TB Stamp) are the thickness of the blade, mentioned above, and the cutting edge of the AG Russell Wharncliffe which is 2 5/8"

I have, and use, many Wharncliffe, Sheepsfoot and Pruner Blades. The AG Russell's and the TB/Case are excellent. The GEC #72 in Wharncliffe is also excellent. The tiny SAK Alox Pruning blade is also excellent.

The AGR Curved Jack is an excellent knife, but I have to add that A.G.'s customer service is right up there with the value and quality of their cutlery.

I received a Curved Jack from A.G. in trade for another knife that, while flawless, didn't meet my needs particularly well. If you're interested, that exchange is noted here:

http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/s...ssell-Customer-Service-goes-Above-and-Beyond?

The Curved Jack in question had one minor issue that was perfectly acceptable, especially at this price point. I only mentioned it to A.G. in passing because I thought it might help with the QC of future runs. I was very specific in saying that I was happy with the knife; no action needed on his part.

A week later, I was surprised to receive another Curved Jack in the mail, with a note saying that this one had been hand-selected, and would I please return the first sample for evaluation. A postage-paid label was included in the package. Moreover, the first sample would be notched as a second and returned to me following its evaluation by QC.

I just received the notched second (a different one than I had sent in), and it took me several minutes of careful chicken-eyein' and coon-fingerin' to figure out why it was a second (top knife in the photo - note the notched tang near the choil). Turns out that it has a few tiny, barely discernible hairline scratches on the bolster.

Once again, A.G. Russel and Co. have exceeded any reasonable expectations in terms of customer service. Amazing.

It just doesn't get any better than that. We are all very fortunate to have Mr. Russell in our midst.

Customer satisfaction is obviously A.G.'s top priority. It shows in his knives and in the way he will go to great lengths to make sure his customers are happy. Never will I hesitate to purchase from him.

I hope that someday I will get a chance to meet A.G. Russell. The pleasure would certainly be all mine.

WELL SHUCKS.....am I the only one who wants BOTH of those wonderfully shaped blades in ONE knife ??? They complement each other perfectly. Frankly, I was amazed when I first layed eyes on their announcement that they were NOT in one knife.

I just won one of these knives in a CollectorKnives Forums give away. It's a jigged bone Wharncliffe. Thank you Railsplitter. It was very generous of you to give away this knife and I appreciate it very much. Now I'll be on pins and noodles until it arrives.

You are certainly welcome, Jerry. Glad to see your enthusiasm. I plan to do a Giveaway here in the not too distant future but the knife is still a mystery to me.

meh im not paying 60ish dollers for a china made knife.
If that's for some political reason then that's up to you offcourse. Each to his own. On the other hand if it's because you feel the quality wouldn't be there. Think again. This is THE most solid slipjoint that I've handled thus far. I can't compare to a lot of brands but from what I've held it leaves 2 Queens, 1 Case and a whole host of Rough Riders in the dust.

I can't compare to any other brands though since I've not owned them.

I have no doubt it is a very well built knife, I just made the choice to buy U.S. made knives, when I can. Its not even a political reason actually, it just feels weird to have a tradition knife that's made in china at any price. The way I put my words in my last post was kind of misleading to my reason.

Just got my amber bone Wharncliffe in the mail. It's excellent. Fit and finish easily exceed the American-made slipjoints I own. It did come rather dull, however. I'm working on correcting that right now.
