A HISTORICAL announcement for KAI at SHOT Show 2016 and an entire NEW line of knives.

James Y, this is probably the best post in this thread. We do have a lot of great choices, whether they are ZTs, Kershaw, Buck, Spyderco, etc.

The problem I see here is that a man that is obviously proud of what his American knife company has done mentioned it in a video that was posted on YouTube. After that, people have derided this as a "marketing ploy". First, it is about the worst marketing ever if it isn't splashed across the internet in various types of social media. Second, why isn't he allowed to be proud of what his company has accomplished?

I get it, people have different opinions on knives. That is great. It keeps the market moving. But, why try to tear down those people that have a preference for something that others don't agree with? No, James Y, I don't mean you. I appreciate your calm and thoughtful post.

Yeah, you'd think it would show up on Bladeforums at least. Oh, yeah, it did. Surprise!

So the COO was not speaking for the company on camera at SHOT. Got it. I see your point! It was adroitly put!

None of that is official ZT marketing though. It's a guy recounting a story to another guy on camera.

If the goal was to sell knives, where's the press release? Where's the logo/slogan/posters/ads?

If this was simply to help sell knives, they are doing a piss poor job. One video to a guy with under 200 subscribers (sorry Stu).

Any particular reason this thread hasn't been shut down yet? Let's just keep it open to bash KAI. SMDH.

No worries Brother. ;) You actually seem to get it.

I am just a guy interested in a variety of gear, some of which I actually use. This (Gear Challenge) has never been about being a marketeer for anyone or any entity/business. I couldn't even tell you how many "subscribers" there are for my original "channel" (yeah that's what they call it), Stuart Gatz, but I do this becasue it is interesting to me and a few guys I know. Hell, before the YouTube "channel," the videos / photos were shared with a few dozen people that were likewise interested in the events or gear. The idea of Gear Challenge has always been about the gear. Seriously, if a man like Mr. Jack Igarashi wanted to market to the U.S. market (or as a few here have pouted, "us") he could actually hire someone MUCH more qualified and interested in doing so than I. Although I actually enjoy interacting with some of the people (most now that I think about it) that I have the honor to meet at SHOT or other events, I have never been anyone's "marketeer," sounds like mouseketeer. My impressions and opinions are only mine and you may disagree all you want. If one wants to watch, watch and if not pass, pass along...

I just thought that a few other people would be interested in what I found to be a new development and the new release of some knives. But it would appear that perhaps it is the wrong subject matter for some in this group. Like a good friend is apt to say, "haters be hatin..."

How is comments on whether it is good marketing or it isn't trashing kai? Some of you folks have a strange way of looking at things. So be it. Continue on.......

hi marcinek -

your reply shows me that you really are not getting the point of what i am saying.

You and i have been on the board for a long time, seen it all so to speak.

What i am saying has nothing to do with what brand you like, prefer, hate - it does not matter.

What i am saying is that people can be nice. Have discussions about knives in a gentlemanly way, without little insulting jabs and disrespect.

The shortcoming i am talking about, and why i mentioned the golden rule, is that you should treat people as you desire to be treated. The shortcoming is the inability of people to just be nice.

I would put my history on this board up against anyone; i am nice until it is time to not be nice.

If i don't like the new knife you just posted pictures of because i would not let my sister date a moron that would choose that design/brand/style of knife, i might compliment you on your picture taking, or congratulate you on the purchase that you were excited enough to come here and share with "knife people".

However, this thread shows how some people just don't know how to be nice. I know i won't change that, but it still irks me.

Your complete point in this thread was that by posting the information about mr igarashi being proud and announcing that they are sending knives to the japanese military, it was de facto advertising.

That is pretty obvious, any news release from any company could be deemed advertising / marketing, unless it was in defense of some wrongdoing i suppose.

Bottom line, what did your thought add to stu's thread? What did any of the posts that i quoted in my rant add to the thread, or my rant for that matter?

None of it was nice and it all took away from what i am here for, and that is the enjoyment of discussing knives with people of a like interest.

Have something critical to say? Great, i might need to hear it, particularly if i am planning on buying that knife, but why can't we add criticism in a constructive, nice way?

I have knives from kershaw, zt, shun, benchmade, becker, chris reeve, spyderco, boker, great eastern, queen, canal street, bear, buck, jk, busse and more. I like what i like but i am not here to piss on whatever someone else likes, because i can be nice about it.

And typical KAI fanboys be whining.

Of course, Rival's caveat applies

^^ I was actually using the phrase "Trolling" in a general sense to describe the actions of the many people crapping all over this thread like they do all KAI related content....it actually wasn't directed toward you specifically. However, the fact you took it that way is telling, that you identify yourself (or your actions) as trolling. very telling....

Just replace "trolling" with "typical whining KAI fanboy" please. So I'm not talking about anyone here. Just using the phrase in "a general sense."

I dont get it either. I've been saying it was clever, and even that has folks bent outta shape.

Sort of surprised this thread has remained open. Good work everyone! Nice to see folks getting along.

In looking more at the new designs and after watching the bladhq video from shot I really like the idea of the prybar knife. I don't think I would get one but I can absolutely see the EDC use some folks could have for such a knife.

I saw that one right away and thought back to times I needed to open a can of paint etc. That design won't be for people who like maximum blade-to-handle ratio, but it could be handy for the right people.

That is exactly what I thought of.

That was actually a very good knife.

Agreed; I wasn't kidding about a 2.0 version... A slightly bigger version of this knife would be sweet.

And they are not that easy to find anymore - I don't have one.

I scooped that one up a while ago; the build quality is fantastic in my opinion. It is essentially a poor man's Rockstead LMFAO (Japan made, aluminum handle, ray skin inserts, high polish blade)... ;) Smooth as butter; crazy smooth action actually and very sharp factory edge.

I've been tempted to move it out of my collection a few times but it was a good deal so why bother. ;):cool:

If only the new Kershaw's could be so enticing and feature rich... :(

Agreed here. I'll pick one up because at the price point it'll be, why not? I find the idea pretty intriguing. It's one of those "Why hasn't anyone thought of this before?" kind of things.

Lets keep this thread open. I'll stop by later, and anyone I find talking about himself will have his posts moved to the Dumbass Repository.

OK, marcinek?

Oh look, more linerlocks for the public

Liner locks are fantastic IMHO when well executed and all of my Kershaw steel LL's have been very solid. On the flip side; it would be neat to see a new locking mechanism from them as they don't deviate much from that in their new offerings.

That said, looking at Kershaw's site at all of the 2016 new releases reveals a sea of feux/faux/pho black plastic and silver alphabet soup metal; no pop or pizzazz whatsoever...

Bland as all get out. YMMV.

I don't understand why the skeptics and koolaid chuggers can't just live in peace.... This is beyond silly. Agree to disagree FFS.

I was kinda intrigued by the Cinder - if you read Rick's comments about the design - I think I have to have one and one of the new TX-Tools -
